Nissan previews Ariya concept and e-4ORCE powertrain at 2020 CES
MANILA: The Nissan leaf was a breakthrough for the automaker in the EV industry. And now, after a decade since the arrival of the Nissan Leaf, the automobile space has gradually gotten filled up with numerous electrified vehicles. To go a notch above the others and offer customers newer and better EVs with enhanced capabilities and better performance, Nissan has unveiled the "e-4ORCE" powertrain, which is a dual-motor setup sending power to all four wheels.
Also, the Japanese automaker has put on display the Ariya concept, which is going to be a crossover equipped with the automaker's brand new e-4ORCE powertrain. As mentioned in the title of the story, the e-4ORCE system incorporates two electric motors, one for the front and one for the rear axle.
Thanks to the new system, the upcoming Nissan EVs will vaunt improved torque flow to each wheel, smoother deceleration with better regenerative braking, sturdy acceleration, and superior handling on slippery surfaces. The new system will also deliver flawless cornering and easy heavy traffic operation.
“The e-4ORCE twin-motor all-wheel control technology offers precise handling and stability, which gives greater confidence and even more excitement to the drivers than ever before. This technology enables excellent cornering performance and traction on slippery surfaces and comfortable ride for all passengers,” said Takao Asami, Nissan’s senior vice president of research and advanced engineering.
Speaking of the Nissan Ariya, the crossover will sport a 0 to 97 kmph (0 to 60 mph) time of under six seconds, 482 km (300 miles) range, and Nissan's ProPilot Assist self-driving technology. There may be as many as three variants of the Nissan Ariya, S, SV, and SL with a price tag ranging from $40,000 to $45,000. The presence of the ProPilot 2.0 should make the Nissan Ariya give Tesla Model 3 a tough fight as the American EV flaunts the much proclaimed AutoPilot system. With the ProPilot 2.0, the Nissan Ariya will be capable of Level 3 autonomy including self-driving, automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, lane centring assist, and adaptive cruise control with stop and go.
The combination to the stylish appearance, nifty creature comforts, and most importantly, the all-new dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, the upcoming Nissan Ariya should turn out to be nothing but a hit. "e-4ORCE increases driver confidence by faithfully tracing the driver’s intended line thanks to ultra-high-precision motor and brake control. With the confidence to handle such a variety of road surfaces, even for novice drivers on slippery surfaces, driving becomes more enjoyable", said Nissan. The production model of the Nissan Ariya will arrive by the end of 2020.
