Nissan TH plants shut until May 31, may affect PH supply

MANILA: If you’re on the waitlist for a Terra or a Navara, expect to wait a little longer as Nissan Thailand extends the manufacturing suspension 25 more days, to end May 31, 2020.

Plant 2 in Samut Prakan has been fully shuttered while Plant 1’s output is constantly being adjusted to meet current demand levels as Nissan’s nationwide dealership network in Thailand remains open and continues to provide sales and service to customers.

The decision has been made based on the advice and guidance of the Thai government and the Ministry of Public Health in order to ensure the safety of Nissan Thailand employees and the community.

"Our goal is to resume normal business operations as soon as possible, but ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all our employees, their families and Thai society is our priority right now given the COVID-19 pandemic," said Ramesh Narasimhan, the president of Nissan in Thailand and former president and managing Director of Nissan Philippines.

Nissan continues to run its global “Care for You” relief program to support customers and ensure their safety during the worldwide lockdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Part of this program is to offer current and potential customers the opportunity to test drive Nissan units in a variety of ways, including in a locale near their neighborhood to reduce their risk of exposure to the virus.

For after-sales service, vehicle pickup is an option.

According to our source from Nissan Philippines, dealers in the country still have stocks for now, but there is a waitlist and those orders only begin the processing phase after the ECQ (enhanced community quarantine) has been lifted. Customers on that list may be the ones highly affected by the suspension and subsequent extension of production in Thailand.
