MANILA: The Omoda 5 has secured a five-star rating from the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP).

The vehicle underwent the assessment's 2021-2025 protocol.Under the assessment’s 2021–2025 protocol, the aforementioned crossover (which still has yet to be retailed in the country) received 88.64 points after scoring 36.77 points in the adult occupant protection, 17.36 in child occupant protection, 19.51 in safety assist, and 15 in motorcyclist safety.
Assessors noted that the gasoline-powered sport utility vehicle offers a range of vehicle safety features as standard fitment such as six airbags, anti-lock braking system, electronic stability control, seatbelt reminder system for frontal and rear seats occupants, standard fitment of rear seats occupant detection, autonomous emergency braking for city and inter-urban, blind spot detection for both the driver and front passenger sides, auto high beam and pedestrian protection technology.
In addition, the vehicle also comes with a host of driver assistive technologies that come as standard or optional fitment like the lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and lane keep assist.
“Through this five-star achievement, ASEAN NCAP hopes Chery will continue to ensure its other models marketed for the region meet the same performance as the Omoda 5. This will undoubtedly give the needed safety benefits for the ASEAN users to enjoy and subsequently help to reduce the high number of road fatalities the region is currently faced with,” the organization said in a statement.
To note, the same model also received a five-star rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).
It can be recalled that said nameplate went viral after a unit abroad allegedly had a rear axle beam malfunction.
To note, the Philippine-spec Omoda 5 was first publicly displayed at the Manila International Auto Show 2024 alongside Jaecoo models namely the J7 and J8.
