The aforementioned initiative was announced after the signing of the partnership with IUCN at the 2024 Omoda and Jaecoo International User Summit in Wuhu, China. In a nutshell, the two carmakers will be investing a total of $3.5 million (P204 million in current exchange rates) in promoting welfare activities related to water resources, ocean conservation and biodiversity, and global environmental protection efforts.
Even before the agreement with IUCN, however, Omoda and Jaecoo both shared that they have been steadfast in their commitment to going green.
In 2024 alone, the two marques have already explored ways to enhance resource innovation and have been promoting global sustainable development through various programs.
For example, the two entities have since launched the Green OJ global green co-creation platform in Beijing. The brands have also worked with the Nepalese non-government organization RPN to protect the habitat of the rare Red Panda and with IUCN to safeguard the threatened Posidonia seagrass in the Spanish side of the Mediterranean Sea.
Apart from its global sustainability efforts, Omoda and Jaecoo have also shared their significant milestones in 2024 so far.
First, the two Chery Automobile sub-brands are now present in 32 markets, including the Philippines. Both have also surpassed a global vehicle sales count of 360,000 units from April 2023 to October 2024.
“Our recent entry in the Philippine market is a part of the brand’s global aggressive expansion. As a new-energy personalized automotive brand, our presence here is also a reflection of our global commitment to bolster sustainable mobility by introducing our automotive engineering DNA,” Omoda and Jaecoo Motors Philippines Country Director Terry Hu said.
One of the most recent local developments for Jaecoo, specifically, is the debut of the all-new EJ6 all-electric sports utility vehicle at the 2024 Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit.
