Only 5 examples of the Mini John Cooper Works GP Inspired Edition will be available in PH

MANILA: Mini Asia and British United Automobiles Inc. have officially launched the Mini John Cooper Works GP Inspired Edition in the Philippines today. This special three-door hatchback comes with exclusive specifications, including a 231hp engine.

In a statement, Mini Asia Head Kidd Yam said, “We received overwhelming response for the Mini John Cooper Works GP when we introduced the car in the Philippines in October last year. As such, we’ve specially developed the Mini John Cooper Works GP Inspired Edition to cater to fans who weren’t able to get their hands on the original, but still want to own a unique piece of motorsports history. This special edition was first conceptualized in Singapore, and only five units will be available in the Philippines.”

In parallel, Mini Philippines and Autohub Group of Companies President Willy Tee Ten stated, “Mini has a long-standing history in motor racing, and the John Cooper Works range draws on this experience to bring authentic racetrack flair to the road. The Mini John Cooper Works GP Inspired Edition packs on the essence of John Cooper Works, and we are very pleased to launch this highly anticipated model here in the Philippines.”

The design elements of the Mini John Cooper Works GP Inspired Edition were derived from its predecessor, the third-generation Mini John Cooper Works GP. It features a Racing Grey Metallic body with Melting Silver Metallic Roof. It is also equipped with the John Cooper Works rear spoiler and mirror caps. Other remarkable design elements are the black engine bonnet scoop, black door handles, and black fuel lid.

The hatchback is also equipped with 18-inch lightweight forged wheels in the John Cooper Works Cup spoke design. The hub caps on the wheels are embellished with the GP logo. Meanwhile, the black Mini logo can be found on the bonnet. A unique “GP Inspired” lettering is also located on the two side doors, air inlet trim, and C-pillar.

On the inside, the car is equipped with John Cooper Works sports seats at the front. The GP logo is embossed in the integrated headrests and on the front-row floor mats. Meanwhile, the “GP Inspired” lettering can be found on the high-gloss cockpit fascia and floor mats.

The Mini John Cooper Works GP Inspired Edition also comes with a unique steering wheel that is wrapped in Walknappa Leather. The steering wheel also features red stitching and a 3D-printed metal center marking for the 12 o’ clock position. The metal shift paddles on the steering wheel and the key cap are also products of 3D printing.

The Mini John Cooper Works GP Inspired Edition is powered by a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine with Mini TwinPower Turbo Technology. The engine generates a maximum torque of 320 Nm, ensuring massive pulling power. The car also features an adaptive suspension that gives the driver more control especially during dynamic cornering.

The engine is mated to an eight-speed Steptronic transmission which is operated through a model-specific electronic gear selector switch.

The Mini John Cooper Works GP Inspired Edition also features  segment-leading technology. The cabin comes with a premium 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. It is also equipped with the Mini head-up display that projects relevant information within the driver’s line of vision to help maintain focus on the road. Another premium feature that comes standard is the park distance control in the front and rear.

The car also comes with a driving assistance package that includes a camera-based system, a digital high-beam assistant with adaptive LED matrix headlights, a collision warning system, a pedestrian warning system, parking assistant, and reversing camera.
