'Performance' Mazda CX-90 PHEV to be unveiled next year

MANILA: Mazda North American Operations revealed the first-ever 2024 Mazda CX-90 would be accessible in every country as a plug-in hybrid electric car when it makes its world debut in January 2023. (PHEV).

The 2024 Mazda CX-90 PHEV will keep the quickness, performance, and driving characteristics that distinguish Mazda vehicles even though it is Mazda's first plug-in hybrid in the United States. Customers will have the best of both worlds in terms of performance and efficiency thanks to this brand-new e-Skyactiv powertrain, which was specifically optimized for the North American market.

For reference, available to order now for delivery in early autumn in Europe, the all-new Mazda CX-60’s e-Skyactiv PHEV drivetrain combines a Skyactiv-G 2.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with a 100 kW electric motor and a 17.8 kWh high-capacity battery. This combination of engine and motor delivers a total system output of 327ps and an abundant torque output of 500Nm. Mazda’s first PHEV also displays outstanding environmental credentials with a claimed combined fuel consumption of 188 mpg and combined CO2 emissions of only 33g/km.

Recently, at a racetrack in each of the UK's home nations, a 2022 Mazda MX-5 Roadster with a 2.0-liter engine and 184 horsepower set a benchmark lap time for a zero-fossil-fuel sustainable-fueled vehicle.

Over the course of a week, the unmodified Mazda MX-5 completed laps at the Anglesey Circuit in Wales, Oulton Park in England, Knockhill in Scotland, and Kirkistown in Northern Ireland while being propelled by Sustain 100% sustainable road fuel from Coryton. The car also traveled 1,000 miles (1,600 kilometers) around the UK from circuit to circuit while using sustainable fuel.

One-hundred-percent agricultural waste, including straw, byproducts, and waste from crops that wouldn't be consumed, was utilized to make the second generation of Coryton fuel.

The drive highlights how sustainable fuels could support Mazda's Multi-Solution strategy for achieving climate neutrality, as well as the role they can play in decarbonizing both road vehicles and motorsport.
