Philippine Towing Services Get on the Wrong Side of MMDA Once Again
MANILA: The Metro Manila Development Authority or MMDA is certainly one of the most public friendly government bodies in the Philippines. If you beg to differ then you must agree that even though they might not be essentially ‘public friendly’, they certainly have no qualms when responding to any complaints. In their latest act of heroism, the towing companies have felt MMDA’s wrath after the former were accused of unlawful towing and mistreatment by the vehicle’s owner near Broadway Avenue. This is clearly not the first time this has happened as country’s various towing services are constantly in a clash with the authorities, with an average of one big incident every year.
The alleged towing company has been identified as Arcson Towing Services, whose license has been suspended by the government authority. This was after the issue went viral as a Facebook post by the aggrieved party, leading to all arcson’s trucks being put into a government deadlock including the vehicle in question. While this sounds unfair to all the towing companies that work for MMDA Philippines, it has certainly helped them achieve a heroic status in the public eye for their fair judgment. The complaint that did all this was filed by Ms. Trix Lareza-Clasara as her vehicle was unlawfully towed followed by harsh treatment by the truck drivers, who also demanded a wrongful penalty amount from Ms. Clasara.
As soon as the post circulated like wildfire on Facebook, Metro Manila Development Authority was quick to notice this as a formal complaint. The aggrieved party was contacted personally by MMDA’s head of Traffic Discipline Office, Mr. Atty Crisanto Saruca who formally apologized for the incident. He also assured that this matter will be personally handled and all the personnel in question will be apprehended. The suspension for the accused Arcson Towing will be effective from the 24th of May 2016, which was the date when the incident happened. Talk about instant karma, this is instant justice being served in the Philippines and people finally have some hope.
