Philippines To Import BMW Core Models From Malaysia
MANILA: BMW Malaysia has made several announcements at a local media briefing and this time, not only Malaysians but we Filipinos will also be benefited from the recent advancements. Philippines and Vietnam will soon source core models of BMW from Malaysia by 2018, as BMW Malaysia is set to assemble vehicles for export in the ASEAN region. BMW managing director and chief executive officer, Han Sang Yun, announced that Malaysia would soon become the exporting hub for the German automaker's range of cars, including the BMW 3 series, BMW 5 series and BMW 7 series.
Along with this announcement, Han also said that BMW had earlier revised the pricing strategy for 1 series and 3 series models, as these models got their Customised EEV Status Incentives. Now the Group will be lowering prices of some its models by nine percent, after being granted the Customised EEV Status Incentives package by the Malaysian government. Models which have been exposed to this price drop include the 3-series Gran Turismo, X3 and 5-series and they are now RM18,000 to RM39,000 cheaper than before. The Filipinos might also have these models at a reduced price, despite the fact that the Philippine government hasn't offered any incentive packages for EEV models yet. Reduced prices will be on account of the import duty exemption on vehicles which are covered by the ASEAN Free Trade Agreement.
With Malaysia being a strategic hub in the ASEAN region, BMW Malaysia expects to boost its production to between 2000 units and 3000 units, in order to fulfill the growing demand. Moreover, BMW Philippines will continue to import large number of BMW cars, as it has recently set a sales record in the year 2015.
