What is the Voluntary Carbon Offset program?
The program calculates a fleet’s total fuel expense as well as CO2 emissions. The emissions are counteracted by carbon credits purchased by Pilipinas Shell for customers from a global portfolio of nature-based projects. These projects have been independently verified to meet the most stringent international standards. What is the objective of the program?
The program aims to raise public awareness and encourage other company fleets to be aware of the CO2 emissions caused by their operations, as well as the steps they may take to reduce them.“We are happy that as we take part in the Voluntary Carbon Offset program, Mazda is the first automobile brand in the Philippines that has gotten on board. We hope to influence or attract similar businesses to follow Mazda’s example,” Shell Fleet Solutions Country Business Manager Chris Alli stated.
The Voluntary Carbon Offset program acknowledges that while the industry tries to avoid or minimize emissions, the necessity for traditional sources persists during the transition. Through Pilipinas Shell, participating companies can reduce their fleets’ inevitable CO2 emissions caused by fuel acquired from Shell-branded service stations.

“This collaboration will hopefully raise the awareness of the public and other company fleets to be conscious about the CO2 emissions generated from their business activities, as well as the action that they can take to address it. Mazda continues to challenge itself to further improve its technologies by combining our unique, efficient engines with electrical drive technologies, and deploys the appropriate technology and propulsion solutions to the markets that meet the requirement,” Mazda Philippines President and CEO Steven Tan said.
Mazda’s partnership with Pilipinas Shell is also in line with its long-term vision of “Sustainable Zoom-Zoom 2030,” which aims to obtain carbon neutrality by developing hybrid systems and electrification and by promoting innovations that cut down carbon emissions in car engines. Skyactiv Technology is standard on all Mazda vehicles, improving fuel efficiency and reducing CO2 emissions compared to previous powertrain technology.
“Shell’s target is to become a net-zero emissions energy business by 2050, in step with society. Our current business plans do not bring us there yet, so we need to change to help us move faster towards the target. The Voluntary Carbon Offset program is an important customer offer. We hope that we can reach more purpose-driven brands like Mazda to collaborate with, drive awareness, and start taking the necessary steps for this cause,” Alli added.
