9th PIMS: Chery Auto PH to launch 2 models

MANILA: Chery Auto Philippines is poised to launch two models at the ninth edition of the Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS).

The local wing of the Chinese carmaker has posted a photo on its official Facebook page with two vehicles covered by thin mantles. Despite being under wraps, one can still make out the illuminated fascia of the soon-to-be-unveiled automobiles.

We guess that it could be the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) and the facelifted Tiggo 2 Pro.

As for the former, a quick look at the carmaker’s global website reveals that the said model is powered by a 1.5-liter gasoline engine assisted by two electric motors. The said setup is mated to a three-gear dedicated hybrid transmission.

In addition, it has an estimated pure electric range of up to 75 kilometers.

To note, Chery Auto Philippines does have a Tiggo 7 Pro hybrid model on offer. However, it lacks plug-in technology, so expanding the range with a PHEV variant could make sense.

Notable features of the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro PHEV overseas include its Rhombus Diamond front grille, a set of 19-inch wheels, a 24.6-inch intelligent curved double-screen system, and a wireless charger.

On the other hand, the updated Chery Tiggo 2 Pro — based on the company’s global site — dons a more modern-looking latticework with high-definition crystal lens LED headlamps, a set of 17-inch alloy wheels, a seven-inch thin-film transistor instrument cluster, and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment screen.

Power for the crossover comes from a 1.5-liter gasoline mill mated to a continuously variable transmission.

PIMS 2024

This year’s PIMS will be held at the World Trade Center in Pasay and will run from October 24-27, 2024.
