Polestar gives Volvo XC90 Performance Dosage
MANILA: It seems that the Swedish automaker Volvo is going through an intensive hard-working phase, wherein it is constantly working on creating new products and re-tuning the ones already present in its line-up. The recent spy shots of XC60 are a good proof supporting this testimony that the brand wants to leave no segment untouched. Further, adding to its long list of fresh creations are 2016 Volvo V90 that was recently captured uncovered, XC40 test mule and much more. As for the ones that the brand upgraded in the recent past include the inclusion of side exterior airbag in V40 and R-Design Touch injected V40, S60 and XC60. And now, it's time to turn the discussion table to the 'most powerful Volvo' ever created.
Hope you guys remember the recently launched Volvo XC90, yes the same car that got a fresh look after almost thirteen years in the Philippines market. The car is now tagged as the most robust Volvo ever created, all thanks to impressive tuning done by Polestar. If in case you are wondering what and how Polestar is responsible for such massive up-gradation than we'd like to inform you that it is the recently acquired performance wing of Volvo. And the very first assignment undertaken by this new performance care taking family member was that of XC90, work on which started back in July 2015.
Finally, after almost 11 months of hard work the brand has finally announced a Polestar Volvo XC90 that's now onboard. Now, let's see the areas on which Polestar has worked and created this massive machine that now is enabled to surpass Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid and Lexus RX on the power front, and BMW X5 eDrive and Mercedes-Benz GLE550e on the torque talk. To the list of XC90 improved areas are included enhanced throttle response, awesome transmission hold and better precision and speed.
You'll understand the above-mentioned improvements better when you’ll compare the non-Polestar Volvo XC90 with a Polestar one. But before that, we'll like to inform you that it's the T8 twin engine plug-in hybrid that has received the Polestar treatment. The Philippines-specific XC90 misses the said mill and rather comes fitted with a T6 supercharged and D5 turbocharged mill.
1. Starting off the T8 2.0L inline-four supercharged turbo mill that earlier produced 406 PS of power and 640 Nm of torque, now after undergoing Polestar dosage it generates 427 PS and 679 Nm of performance figures.
2. Further on the acceleration front, this massive beast that earlier rolled from 0 to 100 kph in 5.8 seconds, now does the same sprint in 5.5 seconds.
3. On the mechanical front, the XC90 under Polestar Performance Optimisation showcases confidence giving gear and throttle response. So, now at corners, the selected lower gear won't be upshifted, thus making tight-corner manoeuvring smooth and agile.
4. But there are few things that have remained untouched and unaffected and believe us, it's all for good. Thus, despite the above-mentioned improvements, the car showcases same emission and economy figures.
As for its Philippines arrival, we are clueless and highly doubtful, as in first place we miss the T8 mill, so getting a Polestar T8 is far off the picture.
