MANILA: Porsche announced that the 911 GT3 RS model has been honored with the EVO Car of the Year award, a United Kingdom-based automotive publication dedicated to performance cars.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
What powers the 2023 Porsche 911 GT3 RS?
The 2023 Porsche 911 GT3 RS is powered by a 4.0-liter engine mated to a seven-speed PDK.How much downforce does the 2023 Porsche 911 GT3 RS make compared to its predecessor?
According to the carmaker, the 2023 Porsche 911 GT3 RS makes twice the downforce as the previous model.According to the German car marque, it was only after a series of exhaustive evaluations pitting the best cars from 2023 that the 992-generation Porsche 911 GT3 RS emerged victorious. The said recognition solidifies the model’s status as a performance icon and a true standout in a highly competitive field.
“This isn’t a conventional group test. Neither is there any circuit work or lap timing done. Instead, this is all about how the cars make us feel when we drive them, and how successfully they nail their original design briefs in their specific niches. Remember, there are no bad cars in the field. But there is only one that is named EVO Car of the Year,” said EVO Editor Adam Towler.
The Porsche 911 GT3 RS had to go toe-to-toe with a handful of other cars. EVO experts drive these vehicles repeatedly until they narrow the field to nine contenders. Then, the seven-member EVO jury assigns each of the nine contenders a score, and the winner is determined by which one receives the highest.
Per the judges, they were already aware that the Porsche 911 GT3 RS’s capabilities have set new standards on the track, to begin with. Still, they stated that they were still “astounded” by its performance over wet and twisty roads, citing the sports car’s ability to be tuned on the fly and the “genuine magical work in the way it appears to have very little in the way of wheel travel, yet could cope with any bump or ridge.”
Among the key features of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS are its naturally aspirated engine, lightweight structure, track-focused cooling, and aerodynamic systems.
Under its bonnet is a 4.0-liter engine that puts out 525 horsepower, thanks to new camshafts with modified profiles as well as a motorsports-derived single-throttle intake system and rigid valve drive.
The powerplant is mated to a seven-speed PDK with a shorter gear ratio. In unison, the said setup allows the Porsche 911 GT3 RS to zoom from a standstill to 100 kilometers per hour (kph) in 3.2 seconds. Speed peaks at 296kph in the seventh gear.
As for its advanced aerodynamic features, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS is fitted with continuously adjustable elements in the front wing and on the two-part rear wing. These — the Stuttgart-based carmaker pointed out — generate twice the downforce compared to the previous model.
“The swan-neck-supported rear wing is made up of a fixed main wing and another hydraulically adjustable one. A front splitter divides the air flowing over and underneath the car while side blades direct air outwards,” Porsche explained in a press release.
