Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 & Spyder are the most powerful 718s ever

MANILA: While the Porsche 718 models have always been potent enough for the segment they fall in, fanatics have wanted them to house a V6 no matter what. The turbocharged four-pots have been great and provided the sports cars with ample power, however, even on paper, the term “V6” looks better than “four-pot” in every sense, doesn’t it? Hence, Porsche very rightly directed its engineers in Stuttgart, Germany to equip the 718s with a flat-six and make the most powerful 718s ever.

After all the work, Porsche has brought out the 718 Cayman GT4 and the 718 Spyder GT4. Housing a 4.0-litre flat-six, both the 718s get 420 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 420 Nm. While the figures might not sound outrageous, considering the fact that the motor here is not a turbocharged unit, the numbers look more than good.

The best part? Both the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 and the 718 Spyder GT4 get a six-speed manual gearbox only. Yes, you read right, there is no automatic or any dual-clutch transmission here. It’s a treat for the purists, isn’t it?

Speaking of the performance figures, both the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 and the 718 Spyder GT4 can do a 0 to 100 kmph run in no more than 4.4 seconds before topping out at 304 kmph and 301 kmph, respectively. Differentiating the GT4 models from the standard 718s are the new front & rear bumpers, stylish alloy wheels, suspension upgrades, and larger brakes.

A fixed rear wing on the 718 Cayman GT4 and a large pop-up spoiler on the 718 Spyder GT4 are the other additions to most powerful 718s ever. Moreover, there are flat underfloors on both the models for improved aerodynamics.
