MANILA: Porsche has sold a total of 77,640 cars globally during the opening quarter of 2024.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
What is Porsche’s strongest market in the first quarter of 2023?
Porsche’s best market in the said timeframe is Europe. What is Porsche’s weakest market from Jan.-Mar. of 2024?
Porsche’s weakest market in the first three months of the year is China.According to the German car brand, the said numbers reflected “a stable level” although they still suffered a slight dip of about four percent compared to that of the previous year (80,767 units).
“In 2024, we are getting ready for the future. With the all-electric Macan, the new Panamera, the Taycan, and the new 911, we are updating four of our six model lines,” Porsche Member of the Executive Board for Sales and Marketing Detlev von Platen said.
“Despite the ramp-up of the new launches, delays in delivery due to regulatory requirements in North America and the still challenging market situation in China, we were able to maintain deliveries at a stable level,” he added.
Strong, weak markets
Porsche’s strongest market in the first three months of 2024 was Europe (excluding Germany). There, the Stuttgart-based carmaker delivered 20,044 vehicles from January-March 2024. The said number translated to an increase of nine percent compared to the same time period in 2023.
In Germany, Porsche handed over 11,274 units to its customers. The said figure meant that the company’s sales in its home market grew by 37 percent.
Sales in China, on the other hand, dropped by 24 percent (16,340 units). Porsche cited “the focus on value-oriented sales, the continued tense economic situation in the Chinese market, and a strong equivalent period in the previous year due to initial post-COVID catch-up effects,” as reasons why its sales declined in the region.
Porsche’s sales in the North American region also weakened as its overall sales from January to March went down by 23 percent (15,087 units). The decline — Porsche pointed out — is mainly explained by a customs-related delay in the shipping of some models.
In overseas and emerging markets, Porsche noted an increase of 14 percent with total deliveries in these areas reaching 14,895 units.
Porsche best-selling models
Porsche’s global best-seller was the Cayenne with 28,025 sold. It was followed by the all-electric Macan with 20,576 units sold.
The iconic Porsche 911 sports car is still very popular with customers and attributed to a total delivery of 12,892 units in the first quarter of 2024. The Panamera tickled the fancy of some 6,139 customers while the Taycan drew the interest of around 4,236 car buyers.
