Porsche clinches 1-2 finish in Mexico Formula E race

MANILA: The Tag Heuer Porsche Formula E Team celebrated its greatest success to date with a one-two victory at the Mexico City E-Prix.

Starting from pole position on the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit in the number 94 Porsche 99X Electric, Pascal Wehrlein clinched the first victory for Porsche in the FIA Formula E World Championship.

Wehrlein's teammate André Lotterer finished second in the number 36 car in the third round of this season’s Formula E.

With this one-two finish in Mexico E-Prix, the Porsche Formula E Team is now third in the teams' standings. In the drivers’ standings, Pascal Wehrlein sits third and André Lotterer in fourth.

During the Mexico E-Prix, Wehrlein was in third place by the halfway mark, with Lotterer in fourth. By the tail end of the race, the Porsche Formula E Team's "perfect race strategy and optimal energy management yielded dividends," the carmaker said. 

As both drivers moved up places, the two Porsche 99X Electric race cars crossed the finish line almost 10 seconds ahead of their closest pursuers.

“We’ve waited a long time for this day. The fact that we achieved this phenomenal success at round three of the new season makes it particularly valuable with an eye on the world championship title," Vice President for Porsche Motorsport Thomas Laudenbach said.
