Porsche Design x Acer craft powerful, lightweight notebook
MANILA: A heavyweight collaboration yields a lightweight, powerful laptop. The Porsche Design Acer Book RS boasts a compact all-metal chassis with the latest 11th-gen Intel Core i7 processor and an NVIDIA Ge-Force MX350 GPU2. Still, the notebook weighs just 1.2 kg (2.65 lbs).
The device is said to banner “Porsche Design’s functional design philosophy and engineering mindset with Acer’s technological innovations and deep-rooted knowledge in the global computer segment.”
The chassis boasts a carbon fiber cover — a nod to the desirable material’s use in motorsports while lending strength and lightness. Co-engineered with Intel, the new laptop gets Intel Evo platform-verified models for a heightened user experience while delivering on battery performance, responsiveness, and fast charging. Speaking of the battery, it can muster 17 hours of performance, “while also capable of generating four hours of usage with a 30-minute fast charge in a pinch.”
Porsche Design Group CEO Jan Becker said, “With more than 40 years of experience in the industry, Acer’s proven track record of excellence matches our commitment to delivering outstanding products with our partners. We are delighted to kick-off this partnership with the new Porsche Design Acer Book RS that embodies the DNA of our brand to the core and sets new standards in performance and design.”
Joined Acer Co-COO Jerry Kao, “The fruit of an exciting partnership between Acer and Porsche Design, the Porsche Design Acer Book RS is a perfect blend of style and performance for urban mobile professionals. It brings together Acer’s expertise in technology and Porsche Design’s prowess (in design), resulting in a refined product that not only has timeless aesthetics, but also exceptional performance under the hood.”
Meanwhile, Intel Corporate Vice President and General Manager of Mobile Client Platforms Chris Walker added, “Enabled by intensive co-engineering support and verified to be the best laptops for getting things done, Intel Evo platforms raise the bar on what people should expect from their laptop… Intel Evo-verified designs like the new Porsche Design Acer RS powered by 11th-gen Intel Core processors with Intel Iris Xe graphics are optimized to deliver the performance, responsiveness and real-world battery life for modern work and play.”
The two covers of the laptop are linked by a unibody hinge that “slightly elevates the keyboard upon opening the notebook, improving cooling and creating a more ergonomic typing experience.” Its keys are backlit, and the touchpad is made of glass and supports different gestures.
A 14-inch FHD IPS touchscreen is covered with a layer of antimicrobial Corning Gorilla Glass — said to cover 100% of the sRGB color gamut. Narrow bezels make the screen bigger — and attains a 90% screen-to-body ratio. For better dispersal of heat, the Porsche Design Acer Book RS gets dual copper heat pipes ensure the device remains cool. The laptop boasts dual-band Intel Wi-Fi 6 (Gig+), a full array of ports (USB-C, Thunderbolt 4, and USB3.2 Gen 2) and smart features, such as more secure fingerprint logins via Windows Hello, Modern Standby and Wake on Voice.
The Porsche Design Acer Travelpack RS accommodates the notebook, along with a mousepad, and mouse, is made from Ecco Palerma XA Leather. The pouch is connected to the notebook sleeve with magnetic clasps. The fabric is water repellant while protecting the laptop. A detachable lid can function as a mousepad. The Bluetooth and wireless Porsche Design Acer Mouse RS completes the travel pack. Carbon fiber is used to reinforce the left mouse button, and is also used as cover for the mouse underside.
