Porsche flaunts features of new 911 Targa models in digital world debut
MANILA: After the successful launch of the Cabriolet and Coupe, Porsche completes its summer lineup with the new Porsche 911 Targa. The all-wheel-drive 911 Targa 4S and the 911 Targa 4 models made its virtual world premiere on May 18 on the Porsche web TV channel 9:11 Magazine.
The virtual debut of the new Porsche 911 Targa can be viewed here.
The vice president for Porsche model lines 911 and 718, Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser, explained in the world premiere some of the innovative features of the 911 Targa. Porsche brand ambassadors, Maria Sharapova (a well-known tennis star) and Jörg Bergmeister (a racing driver), also expressed their excitement about the newly launched vehicle.
One of the Targa's distinct features is its completely automatic roof system. Similar to the iconic Targa prototype from 1965, it has a wrap-around rear window, a movable roof section above the front seats, and a unique wide roll hoop. The roof can be conveniently opened and closed in a matter of 19 seconds.
The 911 Targa benefits from the fact that its exterior is based on the design elements of the 992 model generation, wherein the steering and suspension responsiveness has been dramatically enhanced.
Both 911 Targa models use a six-cylinder, three-liter boxer engines with twin turbochargers and meet the latest emissions standards.
The 911 Targa 4 has 380hp and 450Nm. It goes from zero to 100 km/h in only 4.2 seconds with the Sport Chrono package.
The 911 Targa 4S is more powerful with 444hp and 530Nm. It reaches 100kph from zero in only 3.6 seconds
The top speed of the 911 Targa 4 is 289kph (up 2kph) while the Targa 4S reaches 304kph (up 3kph).
Both 911 Targa models are equipped with eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (PDK) and state-of-the-art all-wheel-drive with Porsche Traction Management (PTM) for optimum driving experience.
The 911 Targa 4S can be purchassed with the newly designed seven-speed manual gearbox, with which the Sport Chrono package has been included.
In comparison with its predecessors, the body of the 911 Targa features more distinct wheel housings at the front part, and between the LED headlights, the bonnet has a unique recess exemplifying the design of the first 911 prototypes.
The rear is dominated by its broader, differentially expansive rear spoiler and smoothly incorporated, exquisite light bar. Excluding the rear and front areas, the whole outer skin is built from aluminum.
Aside from the Classic Guards Red, the Porsche 911 Targa also comes in Lava Orange, Python Green, Racing Yellow, and White.
The interior reflects the 911 Carrera models, and it features straight and precise lines on its dashboard. It also has a compact switch unit with five buttons to directly access essential vehicle functions below the 10.9-inch display screen of the Porsche Communication Management (PCM). The standard PCM components include Connect Plus with Apple CarPlay and online navigation based on swarm data.
One of its newest features is the Porsche InnoDrive, which features adaptive cruise control. It can predict what is present on the road up to three kilometers ahead, and this makes driving very relaxing and energy-efficient. The Innodrive also features high-resolution navigation data and extended distance control tempo stat.
Because of the improved Smartlift function, ground clearance is also programmable so that the vehicle can be driven daily. Moreover, the 911 Targa features real-time navigation, which means that digital in-vehicle services instead of real-time traffic data will be used as well.
Porsche further enhances the combination of advanced technology, iconic design, and conventional style elements in an exceptional version of the 911 Targa, which will roll out in June.
