Porsche Impact extends CO2 compensation program to PH

MANILA: After the success of the pilot phase (which happened from December 2018 to April 2020 where approximately 45,000 tons of carbon dioxide or CO2 were offset), Porsche is broadening its C02 compensation program, the Porsche Impact. This program is currently available in 15 countries worldwide (aside from the USA, Poland, Great Britain, and Germany), including the Philippines.

This initiative was developed along with Porsche Digital, the subsidiary of the auto company, to promote sustainability as the primary corporate strategy of the brand. Since the end of November 2018, neutralization has already been achieved for the CO2 emissions of the Porsche AG fleet.

Through the Porsche Impact, customers are provided with opportunities to generate their contributions and compensate for the CO2 emissions of their vehicles.

Moreover, customers can select between diverse globally authorized projects such as the sustainability projects in the Asia-Pacific region, particularly the energy production through wind and hydroelectric power in China and Vietnam, and the forest conservation projects in Australia and Canada.

As for the Philippines, the sources of its hydroelectric and wind power, for instance, are the geothermal plants in Tiwi, Albay, and the windmills of Bangui, Ilocos Norte, respectively.

Through the use of an online calculator, Porsche customers will be able to know the CO2 footprint of their sports cars and contribute financially to specific support projects for compensation. The specific compensation contribution is based on the selected support program, annual mileage, and consumption.

Executive Board for Production and Logistics at Porsche AG Member Albrecht Reimold said that the auto company is dedicated to the CO2 goals of the Paris Climate Agreement and in continually lessening vehicle emissions.

Aside from the Porsche Impact, the sports car manufacturer also focuses on guidelines to lessen and avoid CO2 emissions from its business activities.

For instance, in its main Zuffenhausen facility, Porsche utilizes electricity from biogas and renewable energies to produce heat. Carbon dioxide neutralization was also considered in the manufacture of the Porsche Taycan in the same plant. Furthermore, Porsche depends on gas and electric-powered trucks as well as eco-friendly rail transport solutions for logistics transport.
