Porsche is releasing an ‘affordable’ version of its Taycan
MANILA: Less than the month after Porsche debuted its all-electric car: Taycan Turbo and Taycan Turbo S, the company announced a third, “entry-level” model in the series—the Taycan 4S.
The Taycan 4S will be available in two versions: the Performance Battery and Performance Battery Plus. The Performance Battery has a single-layer, 79.2-kWh battery, capable of delivering 429 hp of power (522hp on overboost in launch control) and 640 Nm of torque. While the Performance Battery Plus variant has a two-layer, 93.4-kWh battery, similar to the Turbo and Turbo S, capable of delivering 482 hp of power (563 hp on overboost) and 650 Nm of torque.
As an entry-level model, expect these versions to be less powerful than the two more expensive Taycan models. This mainly impacts the car’s acceleration and speed. The 4S is capable of doing 0 to 96.5 kmph in 3.8 seconds and has a top speed of approximately 250 kph. In comparison, the Turbo is capable of accelerating from 0 to 96.5 kmph in 3 seconds while the Turbo S can do it in 2.6 seconds. Both top-of-the-line variants also have a top speed of 260 kmph. The 4S also has the smallest wheel size at 19”. Tycan Turbo has 20” wheels while the Turbo has 21”.
Besides the engine, the Porsche Taycan 4S is mainly similar to the other two Taycan models. It uses the same all-wheel-drive powertrain layout, same 800-volt charging system, same exterior design, and same 10.9” infotainment display. The Taycan 4S also comes with Porsche's 4D adaptive chassis, three-chamber air suspension.
On the inside, Taycan 4S comes standard with an option of partial or leather-free interior, eight-way front seats, and ambient interior lighting.
The best thing about the Taycan 4S would be its price. The Performance Battery variant is at PhP5.36M while the Performance Battery Plus option is at PhP5.7M. This is already a big reduction to the base price of the Taycan Turbo (Php7.79M).
In 2017, Porsche has expressed its desire to sell an electric car for under US$100,000 (PhP5.16M). The Taycan 4S isn’t quite that, but the development of the 4S sees Porsche moving closer to its goal.
The Taycan 4S is now available to order.
