Porsche registers 31% sales growth in H1
MANILA: In the first half of 2021, Porsche moved a total of 153,656 units worldwide, representing a 31% increase versus the same period last year.
The sales growth achieved in the first six months of the year was led by the Cayenne, which delivered a total of 44,050 units—12% higher than last year. It was followed by the Macan with 43,618 units sold, representing a 27% increase.
The all-electric Taycan moved a total of 19,822 units, making it on par with the iconic 911 sports car which delivered a total of 20,611 units. The 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman saw 11,922 units delivered to customers, while the Panamera moved a total of 13,633 units.
In a statement, Porsche AG Executive Board for Sales and Marketing Member Detlev von Platen said, “We are extremely delighted with the high level of demand for our sports cars — the increase in deliveries in the first half of the year is above that of the overall market. The rate of electrification is growing in all regions. This development confirms the path that we have taken with our drive strategy. In Europe, around 40% of the cars currently being delivered have an electric motor — whether they’re a purely electric vehicle or a plug-in hybrid. Our highest priority continues to be to fulfill our customers’ dreams.”
Exactly 36,326 Porsche units were delivered in the United States in the first half of the year. This is 50% higher versus the same period last year. In China, 48,654 units were delivered, representing a 23% increase. 2,324 units of 911 were sold in China between January and June, 83% more than in the previous year.
A total of 69,198 Porsche units were delivered in Asia-Pacific, Africa, and the Middle East.
The Porsche Asia Pacific markets recorded an 87% increase in sales, making it a record performance in the first half of the year for the region. Forty-seven percent of the units delivered were fully electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Additionally, 70% of the customers who purchased the all-electric Taycan were first-time Porsche car owners. This shows that the initiatives launched by the brand to accelerate in the era of electric mobility are gaining attention.
A total of 40,435 Porsche units were delivered in Europe in the first half of 2021. In Germany, the brand was able to sell 13,094 units, which is 22% higher versus the same period last year.
“After an intensive first half year in 2021, we can report a very positive result,” Von Platen added. “Our order books are full. At the same time, we are aware of the uncertainties caused by the corona pandemic and the semiconductor supply situation. We are continuing to keep a close eye on the overall situation while maintaining our optimistic stance.”
