Porsche Taycan unveiled, packs in up to 750 hp
MANILA: The highly awaited Porsche Taycan is, at last, here. The German automobile manufacturer held a worldwide launch of its first-ever all-electric sports car. At the concurrent mega-events, the car was launched in North America, China, and, Europe. Moreover, the EV sports car comes in two variants, namely Taycan Turbo and Taycan Turbo S. While the Taycan can be easily recognised as a Porsche, the EV carries its own uniquities. Also, the number of doors may make some mistake it for a calmer sedan than a performance-oriented Porsche. Anyway, the more you know about the all-new Taycan, the misconceptions fade away and the sports car leave you impressed to the core.
"We promised a true Porsche for the age of electric mobility – a fascinating sports car that not only excites in terms of its technology and driving dynamics, but also sparks a passion in people all over the world, just like its legendary predecessors have done. Now we are delivering on this promise", cited Michael Steiner, Member of the Executive Board of Porsche AG – Research and Development.
In terms of design, the Porsche Taycan gets a wide stance, all LED lighting, sleek side profile, sloping roofline, vocalised shoulders, and the trendy glass-look Porsche emblem within the wide taillight strip at the rear. "The Taycan links our heritage to the future. It carries forward the success story of our brand – a brand that has fascinated and thrilled people the world over for more than 70 years. This day marks the start of a new era", said Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG.
On the inside, the Taycan gets an exclusively designed interior and dashboard. If a digital instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment were not enough, Porsche is also offering an optional passenger display. The main infotainment system features a 10.9-inch touchscreen. All the climate controls and other buttons are also digital, and there are hardly any physical or mechanical controls.
One of the major attraction inside the Porsche Taycan is the “Hey Porsche” voice command. Mechanical bits on the Porsche Taycan sport an 800 V system instead of the conventional 400 V setup. With the higher voltage system and a 270 kW charging power, the Porsche Taycan takes just around 22.5 minutes to reach 80% State of Charge (SoC). While there are 670 horses inside the Taycan Turbo model, the Turbo S variant, on the other hand, gets up to 750 hp of maximum power from its all-electric powertrain.
Top speed stands at 260 kmph (161 mph) for both the models and the Porsche Taycan is capable of travelling up to 449 on a single charge depending on the model and driving style. Following the launch of the Turbo and Turbo S models, Porsche will be introducing other less powerful variants such as the Taycan Cross Turismo shortly.
