The Porsche 911 is the best-selling nameplate for 2023 —selling 50,146 examples last year.Porsche AG Board Member for Sales and Marketing Detlev von Platen shared the information after the Stuttgart-headquartered firm said that the demand for its vehicles in 2023 came from emerging markets such as Southeast Asia. The firm is anticipating a challenging year ahead.
Its performance in the said area, the company noted, “outperformed growth rates in established regions” — continuing its upward sales trajectory.
Last year, Porsche rolled out 320,221 units to customers around the world — showing a three-percent growth versus the same timeline in 2022. Such performance was attributed to the steady demand in Europe and North America, “as well as to the brisk growth pace in other regions that helped pick up the decline in China.”
“Last year we benefited in particular from Porsche’s very balanced position in its largest sales regions. We will continue to optimize this harmonious market distribution,” von Platen was quoted as saying.
The executive said that for the year, the company will focus “more than ever on value-oriented growth and a stable sales level.” “We’re laying the groundwork for the future and are updating four out of six model series. That’s more product launches than ever before in a single year,” he added.
Last year, Porsche deliveries in emerging markets spiked by 16 percent — representing 52,220 sports cars sold. In Europe, sales rose 11.3 percent during the same period, and nine percent in North America (the brand’s two biggest volume drivers). China, on the other hand, registered a 15-percent slide.
Model-wise, Posche recorded the largest increase with the 911, showing a 24-percent growth last year compared to 2022 with 50,146 examples turned over to clients worldwide.
The purely-electric Porsche Taycan sold 40,629 units in 2023 — showing a 17-percent rise over the same period the prior year.
Providing additional thrusts to Porsche’s 2023 results were the 718 (Boxster and Cayman) models, which posted a 13-percent growth with 20,518 units sold.
Further, the Porsche Cayenne and Macan sport utility vehicle models retailed 87,553 and 87,355 units respectively while 34,020 Panamera units were handed over last year.
