Porsche unveils new lightweight sports car, the 911 Carrera T

MANILA: Porsche has introduced the newest addition to the 911 family, the 911 Carrera T lightweight sports car. The letter “T” stands for touring and represents models that provide a purist driving experience with remarkably sporty features.

  • The new 911 Carrera T is the pinnacle of purism and intense driving experience, with a PASM sports suspension with a 10mm-lowering and reduced insulation. The interior now features an even more dramatic ambience with the engine's sound. The rear seats have also been notably removed.

The 911 Carrera T, which sits between the 911 Carrera and the 911 Carrera S, borrows the bi-turbo engine from the entry-level 911, producing 385ps of power and 450 Nm of torque. It can accelerate from zero to 100kph in 4.5 seconds and has a top speed of 291kph.

The 911 Carrera T comes standard with a seven-speed manual gearbox. Customers may also opt to equip it with the available eight-speed PDK.

The Sport Chrono package is also standard on the 911 Carrera T. The optional rear-axle steering, which is usually only available for Carrera S and higher models, is also available for the Carrera T upon request.

The 911 Carrera T is fitted with 20- and 21-inch Titanium Grey Carrera S wheels with 245/35-sized tires at the front and 305/30-sized tires at the rear. The GT sports steering wheel, sports exhaust system, and Sports Seats Plus are also included as standard with the 911 Carrera T.  The 911 Carrera T with a manual transmission, which is 35kg lighter than the 911 Carrera with a conventional eight-speed PDK, is the lightest series 911 with the entry-level engine, weighing just 1,470kg. Additional weight savings come from lightweight glass and a lightweight battery.

The “T” in the model designation signifies touring and dates back to 1968, when the 911 T was registered as a touring car.  The original 911 T became available until 1973. Since then, Porsche has successfully applied the idea of the simple, yet incredibly sporty setup to other model lines with the 718 Cayman T, 718 Boxster T, and Macan T.

The 911 Carrera T distinguishes itself from the rest of the model lineup with Dark Grey accentuating details. Agate Grey is used in contrasting parts like the top and bottom trim on the exterior mirrors, the new door and rear emblems, and the trim strips on the rear lid grille. The top of the windscreen is tinted grey as well. The sports exhaust system's tailpipes are high-gloss black. The result is an even more aggressive and athletic appearance for the 911 Carrera T.

The standard four-way Sports Seats Plus emphasize the interior sportiness of the car. The T interior is finished off with beautiful high-gloss black inlays and matte black trim. Customers who want their vehicle to stand out even more may order the optional Carrera T interior package. They will be given additional safety belts that contrast with one another and are either Slate Grey or Lizard Green.

Porsche 911 Carrera T is available in four solid colors: Black, White, Guardsred, and Racing Yellow, as well as in four metallic finishes: Deep Black, Gentian Blue, Ice Grey, and GTsilver. There are also special colors available:  Chalk, Ruby Star Neo, Carmine Red, Shark Blue, and Python Green. The Paint to Sample program, which offers paintwork in over 110 available color tones, is another option available to buyers of the 911 Carrera T.
