Porsche's Zuffenhausen plant undergoes major upgrade
The German carmaker will incorporate developments in its production process.

Porsche's Zuffenhausen plant will have additional quality test benches for vehicle assembly, additional logistics areas, and a new high-bay rack.As numerous sports car production systems will be upgraded, Porsche will also incorporate developments in its production process.
For instance, the Taycan will be produced with the help of the latest automated guided vehicles, which will replace the traditional assembly line with a “Flexiline” to enable a variable production process that will allow mixed assembly of internal-combustion-engine-powered and electrified vehicles in the future.
Standardized quality assurance and approval checkpoint points will also be integrated into the production process. There will also be a new light tunnel, test benches for leak and surface inspections, and acoustic test benches for electric vehicles.
Porsche will also be adding more logistics areas within the body shop. Additional high-bay racks will also be opened in 2025 to supply the body shop for the Taycan and sports car production with vehicle parts.
The assembly of the electric powertrain for the upcoming electric Macan will also be integrated into the existing engine plant. The next-generation Macan is expected to roll off the assembly line at the Leipzig site in 2024.
“The reconstruction measures and extensions to sports car production at our main plant are an important milestone for the Zuffenhausen site. The conversion measures will enable increased efficiency, the highest quality standards, and mixed production of combustion-engine and electric sports cars. This will see us start a new chapter in sports car production in terms of the smart factory,” Porsche Executive Board for Production and Logistics Member Albrecht Reimold stated.
