Presidential cars in the Philippines are now out for display
MANILA: In the Philippines, the vehicles that were once used by the past Presidents are now brought together at one place. Yesterday, Museo ng Pampangulon Sasakyan (Presidential car museum) was inaugurated in the Quezon City.
This project had been in the process of making from the past several years and it is run by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines.
The museum was inaugurated on the occasion of Quezon City day and was attended by the Mayor, Herbert Bautista and Chief Guest, Mr Harry Roque and NHCP chair, Dr Rene Escalante and Executive director Ludovico Badoy. The ceremony was also attended by the family members of the past Presidents.
The museum has a build area of 2000 sq meter and is located at the heart of the Quezon City near to Memorial Circle park. There are 14 vehicles for display which were used by the Presidents and other important personalities involved with the country's history.
Under the spotlight, is the 1924 Packard Single-6 touring which was used by the President during his rule. Fleetwood Series 75 Limousine, 1937 Chrysler Airflow Custom Imperial and 1959 Cadillac Sedan DeVille were the show stealers.
Some of the historical vehicles are 1934 Radical V16 Transformable used by General Douglas,1934 Willys MB Jeep used by Ramon Magsaysay and 1960 Rolls Royce Phantom V used by Imelda Marco.
The museum has plans for further expansion of the vehicles and is seeking to acquire the vehicles for Carlos P Garcia and Benigno Aquino III.
Besides the vehicles, the museum also has a big projection wall, a meeting room, curator's office and a souvenir shop that has various exclusive items for sale including the PHLPost commemorative presidential car stamps.
The museum is now open to the public and there is no admission fee.
