Ram unwraps 1500 Revolution BEV concept at CES 2023

MANILA: The Ram 1500 Revolution Battery-electric Vehicle (BEV) Concept — which offers a peek into the future and highlights how the industry's top truck brand can once again transform the pickup truck market — was unveiled by the Ram Truck brand at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2023.

The cutting-edge Ram 1500 Revolution BEV Concept displays a ton of ground-breaking features that will be found in Ram's future trucks, especially as it moves toward electrification.

To better meet consumer expectations, Ram will differentiate itself by providing a range of completely electric solutions, including a Ram 1500 BEV that will redefine its market in 2024. In the upcoming years, the complete Ram portfolio will provide electrified options with ground-breaking, cutting-edge technology. The Ram 1500 Revolution BEV Concept lays forth how Ram will surpass future EV offers from rivals.

The Ram 1500 Revolution BEV Concept is part of Ram’s significant contribution to Stellantis’ Dare Forward 2030 strategic plans by delivering innovative, clean, safe and affordable mobility solutions.

Exterior-wise, the Ram 1500 Revolution BEV Concept is impressively "brutiful"—brutal yet beautiful, the truck maker said. The brand-new face of Ram, which sports a completely animated LED "tuning fork" design, is adorned with an animated and contemporary "R-A-M" insignia. The doors have been redesigned as a big saloon-style entrance that reveals a vast interior space devoid of a B-pillar.

Bright LED lights have been deftly incorporated into the front bumper flares, and fully animated LED taillamps and badging showcase lighting improvements. The Ram 1500 Revolution BEV Concept builds on Ram's standing as the leader in off-road and performance trucks in North America. It has an integrated fascia design with a skid plate and innovative pivoting tow hooks that can fit flat.

Innovative features are thoughtfully integrated throughout and include a new powered front trunk or “frunk” with one-touch open-and-close functionality that adds capability and storage. Other powered features, including a powered charge-port door situated on the driver’s side front quarter panel, a powered tailgate, flush-mounted door handles, powered side steps and a powered rear step with active diffuser, round out the extensive list of powered features.

A motorized multifunction tailgate and a larger RamBox are recognizable Ram design features with increased functionality. With a brand-new, distinctive form, the acute hourglass body shape and fender wells accommodate 35-inch tires. The 24-inch wheels on the 1500 Revolution BEV Concept include center caps that light up and remain in place, and the vehicle is self-leveling.

The Ram 1500 Revolution BEV Concept is designed on the ground-breaking STLA Frame EV platform, which allows for these novel dimensions. The design team was able to move the cabin forward and extend the cabin thanks to new intelligent safety features and smaller, more powerful electric motors. The cabin of the 1500 Revolution BEV Concept is four inches longer than that of a typical production truck, providing more space and comfort while keeping the bed's length constant.

The Ram 1500 Revolution BEV Concept features what is referred to as a "one space environment," which allows for a variety of interior arrangements. A new internal arrangement that provides even more versatility with space to configure a workspace or for your next journey supports the "one space environment" motif.

A new architecture results in a much larger interior and longer cabin, and the size of the battery permits increased cargo volume. Ram's rail attachment/floor track system, Ram Track, gives the seats and console in the cabin flexibility as well as the option for usable tie-downs or additional storage. Ram Track is built into the bed and the frunk as well, providing genuine flexibility from front to back.

Nearly 50 years ago, the club cab was introduced with second-row seating. After 50 years, Ram is still improving on these elements that have changed the automotive industry, and the 1500 BEV Concept adds third-row jump seats. Jump seats are installed on the motorized mid-gate and the bottom portion is detachable for storage in the bed or outside the car. The motorized glass mid-gate allows for a pass-through (and into the frunk) that can accommodate anything up to 18 feet long. when the tailgate is shut.

Meanwhile, modern technology is combined with the rearview mirror to enhance convenience and safety. The rearview mirror, which is far smaller than conventional truck mirrors without sacrificing functionality, is crammed with high-end technology, including a smart backup camera with 360-degree views, speakers, and receivers compatible with voice assistants like Alexa and Siri.

To give the driver a 360-degree picture on the inside digital panels, the camera in reverse combines images from many other cameras surrounding the truck. This makes it easier for the driver to view their surroundings, which improves safety and helps prevent accidents, especially while backing up to a trailer. The mirror also has an additional backup flood lighting, which is beneficial in low light settings and adds to vision when backing up the truck. The rearview mirror also connects with biometric cameras that watch the truck's surroundings when it gets closer to things and is being approached, in addition to the backup camera.

The interior of the Ram 1500 Revolution BEV Concept has distinctive and resourceful materials as a result of sustainability being a major consideration during development. Examples include the durable and light-weight Greyslate Nanostone Veneer and the naturally animal- and cruelty-free Apple Leather, a byproduct of the apple industry. Additionally, the Ram 1500 Revolution BEV Concept has a distinctively textured floor made of recycled rubber and cork particles to increase usefulness and endurance.

Two electric drive modules (EDMs), which are placed in the front and back of the vehicle to maximize interior space and enable the spacious frunk, power the Ram 1500 Revolution BEV Concept's all-wheel drive system. The Ram 1500 BEV Concept has the potential for future high-performance applications because it is built to support greater capacity EDMs.

The Ram 1500 Revolution BEV Concept has four-wheel steering with up to 15 degrees of articulation, which is intended to boost the vehicle's steering response at high speeds as well as providing better vehicle mobility when parking at low speeds and on congested off-road trails.

The Ram 1500 Revolution BEV Concept has a body-on-frame construction that effectively incorporates the battery pack and is based on the company's STLA Frame platform.
