Rolls-Royce to feature Bespoke collection at Goodwood
MANILA: Rolls-Royce has officially unveiled the Rolls-Royce Wraith Black Badge Landspeed Collection at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed. The Landspeed Collection was crafted to commemorate the remarkable records set by British engineer Captain George Eyston in Thunderbolt, which was powered by two Rolls-Royce R V12 aero engines.
The Wraith Black Badge Landspeed Collection features a specially designed two-tone finish that gives a visual cue to the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah where Etyson earned his record-breaking runs between 1937 and 1938. The body of this Collection Car combines Black Diamond Metallic with a Bespoke Bonneville Blue hue. The color transitions from light blue to silver under sunlight to depict the reflections of the sky over Bonneville and the salt flats on the aluminum body of the Thunderbolt.
The fissured texture of the salt flats is also replicated in the engraved fascia inside the cabin. Meanwhile, the fine perforations on the steering and driver’s seat represent the dark line painted onto the stark white surface that guided Eyston on his record runs. The Starlight Headliner portrays the night sky on September 16, 1938, when Eyston set his final land-speed record of 357.497mph. Silhouettes of the Thunderbolt and its three record-breaking speeds are laser-engraved on the front tunnel. Only 35 Wraith Black Badge Landspeed Collection units will be produced.
The Rolls-Royce Wraith Black Badge Landspeed Collection will be hillclimbing up to four times a day in the “First Glance” showcase. A Rolls-Royce Dawn Black Badge will also participate in the “Michelin Supercar Run” to further demonstrate Black Badge’s agility. Both vehicles are displayed in the Supercar Paddock between their scheduled outings.
The Rolls-Royce Black Badge is known for delivering more torque, control, and power. Since its launch, more Rolls-Royce patrons pushed the boundaries of the brand’s alter-ego through their own Bespoke commissions.
A selection of Bespoke commissions including Phantom, Ghost, Dawn, Cullinan, and Wraith is also exhibited on the Festival’s Laundry Green, adjacent to Goodwood House.
As the brand’s flagship model, the Phantom will rightly assume pride of place in Rolls-Royce’s Bespoke space. This commission features a striking look with its Silver Haze exterior with black detailing darkening key portions of the brightwork including the B-pillar, window surrounds, and the vertical bars of the signature Pantheon Grille.
The cabin features a black colorway on the headliner, doors, fascia, and carpets, contrasted by Cashmere Grey panels on the seats and doors, and Charles Blue accents on the seat piping and linings of the door pockets. The fascia also features a Carbon Veil Gallery which was commissioned in collaboration with Alastair Gibson, an artist known for his work with carbon fiber. The artwork was inspired by the skies and the angular, stealth-like shape of fighter jets.
As the most technologically advanced Rolls-Royce, the new Ghost will also be exhibited in the event. This commission features a Submariner Blue surface finish that was applied for the first time to a Rolls-Royce Ghost. Its exterior is even made sleeker by the dark 21-inch “Shadow” part-polished wheels and the chrome window around the glasshouse. A Grace White leather wraps the cabin for a more refined aesthetic, while the Navy Blue accents on the secondary panels of the seats, steering wheel, lambswool carpet, seatbelts, and stitching details mirror the exterior hue. To give a natural touch to the contemporary cabin, the fascia and the center console between the front seats come with a Circassian Walnut finish.
As an “emblem of spontaneity,” the Rolls-Royce Dawn featured during the event is presented in Verde Ermes, a deep Bespoke shade of green. It is also equipped with 21-inch Anthracite Grey wheels. An Aero Cowling makes this Dawn a two-seat vehicle with a Casden Tan interior. It also features a two-tone Black and Casden Tan steering wheel.
A unique Black Badge Cullinan is also presented on the Festival’s Laundry Green. This commission features a dramatic Iced Magma Red body and the signature Black Badge accents including a Spirit of Ecstasy in high-gloss dark chrome, a blackened exterior brightwork, and 22-inch part-polished Black Badge wheels.
The red theme is extended through the interior, where Mugello Red is contrasted against black seat details, carpets, and Shooting Starlight headliner. The two-tone hue is also used in the Viewing Suite.
Another Black Badge model on display is a Wraith that features an Iced Premiere Silver coachwork. This commission creates a monochromatic effect as it also comes with a dark chrome Spirit of Ecstasy and 21-inch Black Badge wheels. In contrast, the interior is designed with vivid Mugello Red highlights.
Other Rolls-Royce motor cars present at this year's Festival of Speed include a Black Badge Cullinan that serves as a festival course safety car and a Ghost that is used as a courtesy car.
