RS 3 Sedan heralds Audi Sport arrival in PH
MANILA: Audi Philippines recently launched the Audi Sport brand in the country, and it was led by the new RS 3 Sedan.
Audi Sport is the high-performance division of Audi AG, and is responsible for developing the top-grade RS lineup.
The RS 3 Sedan is motivated by a turbocharged 2.5-liter TFSI five-cylinder gasoline engine, recognized as the International Engine of the Year for 10 years in a row by international automotive journalists. The evaluation for this award is based on the engine's fuel economy, smoothness, power delivery, sound emitted, and overall performance. From 2010 to 2018, the TFSI five-cylinder engine had acquired the recognition for the 2-0-liter to 2.5-liter category. In 2019, it was also hailed as the best among 150ps to 250ps-class engines.
Considered as the most powerful series-produced five-cylinder engine, the 2.5 TFSI is exclusive to high-performance vehicles. The engine delivers a power output of 400hp and a torque of 480Nm, which is available between 1,700 to 5,850 rpm. This fuel-efficient engine is Euro6 complaint, boasting city/highway fuel consumption of 11.76 km per liter.
The engine’s inline five-cylinder layout produces a distinctive sound. When the amount of power is increased, the flaps in the exhaust system open to resonate the sound, which can also be adjusted through the Audi Drive Select. In the RS 3 Sedan, the engine creates a crisper sound due to the RS sport exhaust system.
The new RS 3 Sedan’s high-powered engine is mated to a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission. For the automatic mode, the driver can choose between two programs:“D” for a normal engine speed and “S” for higher revs.
The RS 3 Sedan uses Audi’s standard Quattro all-wheel drive system with an electronic multi-plate clutch which distributes the torque to the axles.
When it comes to the exterior, the RS 3 Sedan is designed with a sporty look that is highlighted by its Singleframe grille with the Quattro logo. Its Audi Sport distinction is emphasized by its fixed rear spoiler lip, a diffuser insert with vertical struts, and huge oval RS exhaust tailpipes.
The release of the RS 3 Sedan in the Philippine market was joined by the RS Q8 SUV and the RS 6 Avant. It is expected that other RS models, together with the new R8 supercar, will arrive in the country within this year.
