KEY TAKEAWAYS
What is the purpose of the Garahe ng Galing program?
The program is aimed at helping mechanics and drives reinforce their knowledge that they might encounter on the road.Where will Shell Lubricants Philippines conduct the next legs of Garahe ng Galing?
The upcoming legs will be held in Cebu and Cagayan de Oro City.In a statement, Shell Lubricants Philippines said that the event (which had its kick-off at last August 26 at the Don Bosco Technical Institute of Makati) served as a platform for mechanics and drivers to acquire new skills and improve their knowledge on actual situations that they might experience while on the road.
Participants from Metro Manila, Bulacan, Rizal and Cavite joined the program's opening round which had discussions focusing on three topics: oil leak, engine problems, and tire wear.
The program ended with a brief explanation and a question-and-answer-session between the participants and the Don Bosco instructors.
After completing the three skills challenges, participants were directed to the NC-1 registration booth to apply for a free TESDA NC-1 (National Certification in Automotive Servicing) Certificate. They also had a chance to win freebies such as one gallon of Shell Rimula R4X, socket wrenches, or a gift certificate to a fast-food service chain.
Shell Lubricants Philippines Vice President Jackie Famorca noted that the event gave their team insights into the challenges faced by truck drivers and mechanics and helped them identify ways to support them better.
With every driving journey and use of repair tools, they pave the way for a safer, more vibrant, and more connected Philippines. Shell Lubricants is committed to supporting them so they can do their jobs safely and efficiently. It's high time we see their value and appreciate them for everything they do to keep our country moving forward),” Famorca said.
She also said that the drivers and mechanics work long hours, often face rough working conditions and have to be away from home for weeks to deliver essential goods and services wherever and whenever needed.
Don Bosco Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Department Technical Director Johnnie Santos described the work of truck drivers and mechanics as “no small feat.”
He also shared Don Bosco's partnership with Shell and how they aim to empower the aforementioned individuals to become more globally competitive and help elevate their lives.
Relatedly, Shell said that the next legs of the aforementioned event will be conducted in Cebu and Cagayan de Oro City to reach more truck drivers and mechanics in the rural areas of the country and provide them with access to learning and upskilling opportunities.
To note, Shell Rimula line offers a variety of mineral and synthetic-based engine oils that use adaptive technology to provide wear and engine protection — be it the 20W-40, 15W-40, or 10W-40. According to Shell, Rimula engine oils meet the latest API rating that is required in the market.
