Source: PH to get all-new Toyota Land Cruiser in Oct.
MANILA: Since its global launch in June, speculation has understandably surrounded the all-new Toyota Land Cruiser – most notably on the date the model goes to market in the Philippines.
Now we have an idea.
“We’ve had a lot inquiries already about the Land Cruiser,” confirmed our source to ZIGWHEELS PH. He (also understandably) requested to remain anonymous.
So when is the car cover going to drop? “October,” he replied.
Scuttlebutt also has it that the all-new GR 86 is poised to be launched locally soon as well, but our source said the Land Cruiser will definitely come first.
In a June release for the all-new Land Cruiser’s launch, Toyota Motor Corporation noted that “cumulative total of approximately 10.4 million units and more than 300,000 units a year have been sold in 170 countries and regions all over the world.”
The complete redesign of the “flagship station wagon model of the Land Cruiser” comes as the nameplate turns 70. The first Land Cruiser rolled out in August of 1951 as “the original model developed for use by the National Police Reserve. Although the National Police Reserve did not adopt the model, it was adopted as a patrol car by local branches of Japan's National Police Agency. The model became the first vehicle to climb up to the sixth checkpoint of Mount Fuji. The vehicle name was changed to Land Cruiser in 1954.”
The new Land Cruiser will now have the appellation “300 Series,” to succeed the 200 Series that was first released in 2007. It rises on Toyota’s new GA-F platform based on the TNGA “while keeping the frame structure, which is the foundation that protects the Land Cruiser's essence.”
Powering this Land Cruiser is a new V6 twin-turbo engine in 3.5-liter gas and 3.3-liter diesel versions. Toyota said that the power plants allow the LC to achieve “class-leading driving performance and drivability that surpass those of a conventional V8 engine.” The vehicle also represents a 10% slash on emissions compared to the soon-to-be outgoing model.
The new Land Cruiser also gets the Toyota Safety Sense active safety suite “with additional advanced functions.”
So, are you ready to see the all-new LC?
