Ssangyong Musso: Features explained
With the rapid evolution of the automobile industry, we have witnessed the customer interest to take a dip towards the SUV, crossover, and pickup segments. To get a fair share of the market, different manufacturers have brought their respective offerings in the Philippine market. While Ford has its ever so popular Ranger, Mitsubishi has been topping the sales charts with its Strada. On the other hand, Nissan’s Navara, Hilux by Toyota, Chevrolet’s Colorado, and others have also been giving each other some stiff competition in the Philippine automobile industry.
In order to join the league and benefit from the growing interest of Filipinos in pickup trucks, Ssangyong brought in the Musso in the Philippine market. Available in a single variant and seven colors, the Ssangyong Musso certainly packs a punch at Php 1.5 million for giving the likes of Ford Ranger, Mitsubishi Strada, and others a run for their own money. So, what all features make the Ssangyong Musso a pickup worth considering? Read on to know!
Exterior
Considering the fact that the Musso will be sold in a single variant in the Philippines, Ssangyong has equipped its pickup truck with the best features it could. Up front, we have stylish projector-style halogen headlamps with LED DRLs flanking a blacked-out grille with a chrome strip running across. The grille also houses the brand’s logo. Then we have the foglamps inside of their housings and a muscular looking front bumper.
Having a look at the side profile of the Musso, the roof rails, 18-inch Aluminium alloys, and some bold character line provide the South Korean pickup with a distinct and attractive appearance. At the rear, the vertically elongated taillights, tailgate with Ssangyong logo and Musso emblem, and a black bumper with a reflector on either end complete the look of the Musso. Another feature that’s worth mentioning is the power folding & adjustable ORVMs with integrated LED turn signals.
Interior
While you must have already been impressed by the exterior features on the Ssangyong Musso, brace yourselves for the equally striking interior. Brown Nappa leather upholstery further enhances the feel-good peculiarity of the already spacious cabin on the Musso.
Despite being a pickup truck, the Ssangyong Musso gets some high-end features like a multi-function steering wheel, heated & ventilated front seats, and an eight-inch LCD infotainment system with USB-Apple Carplay & Android Auto. Moreover, six speakers, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear AC vents, and vanity mirrors with a lamp for both the driver and the passenger take comfort and convenience quotient to the next level.
Mechanical
Following the looks and the comfort & convenience features on the Ssangyong Musso is the mechanical specs sheet of the pickup. The Ssangyong Musso specs comprise of a 2,157cc e-XDi 220 Euro 4 compliant diesel-fed engine that makes 181 PS of maximum power at 4,000 rpm and a peak torque of 420 Nm from 1,400 rpm to 2,800 rpm. The more than decent power is then sent to the wheels via the AISIN six-speed automatic gearbox that comes equipped with Drive Mode Selection.
Unlike its counterparts, the Ssangyong Musso gets a 4x2 drive option only. For outright performance on trails and impressive comfort on the city roads, the Ssangyong Musso gets a double wishbone suspension at the front and a five-link unit at the rear. Handling the braking duties at the front are handled by ventilated discs, solid discs take care of the same at the rear. As mentioned earlier, the Ssangyong Musso rides on 18-inch Aluminium alloys clothed with 255/60R18 tyres.
Safety
Just like the exterior, interior, and the mechanical bits on the Musso, Ssangyong has equipped the pickup with enough safety features as well. To start off, we have six SRS airbags that include front airbags for driver & passenger, side airbags for driver & passenger, and curtain airbags. Then we have the anti-lock braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) along with remote keyless entry and a reverse parking camera.
We believe you must have ended up being surprised by the stuff that the Ssangyong Musso has on board, right? With that said, it is quite evident that the Ford Ranger and the Mitsubishi Strada are not the only pickup trucks out there with proven powertrains and ample features. Hence, if you are in the hunt for a pickup truck for your personal and commercial use, the Ssangyong Musso is definitely worth a test drive. The Ssangyong Musso price of Php 1.5 million won't put too much load on your pocket either.
