Ssangyong Tivoli - Old vs new
Ssangyong already had the Tivoli in the Philippines but we really can’t recall spotting it on the road. Do you? Let us know in the comments. Anyway, in another attempt to make its presence felt in the country, Ssangyong has recently launched its updated Tivoli for the 2020 model year at a starting price of Php 785,000.
To make sure that the new 2020 Ssangyong Tivoli doesn’t go unnoticed, the South Korean brand has done certain changes which, apparently, make the new Tivoli better than the old one. How true is that? We are here to find that out.
Exterior
Ssangyong has indeed added new features in the new Tivoli to make it look better than the previous model. And the bottom line is, it does look better than its predecessor.
The front end of the 2020 Tivoli has been totally revamped. The old pair of large headlamps have been replaced by a set of sleeker and sharper LED headlights. The design of the front grille has been changed for a sportier look. Ssangyong also redesigned the front bumper. It now gets vertically stacked LED fog lamps. Overall, the front end of the new Tivoli looks much mature than before.
From the side, the new Tivoli looks quite familiar. It carries a sloping roofline-like design. There are a few character lines on the doors and we have a set of new alloy wheels. Similarly, not much has been changed at the back.
You might notice the tweaked tail lights. They have the same design and shape but now gets a slight change in terms of their signature lighting. Let us know in the comments your opinion about this new design.
Interior
The cabin space of the new Ssangyong Tivoli is similar to that of the old Tivoli perhaps because of the fact that Ssangyong didn’t play around with the car’s dimensions.
Following are the dimensions of Ssangyong Tivoli-
Length | 4195 mm |
Width | 1795 mm |
Height | 1590 mm |
Wheelbase | 2600 mm |
Fuel tank capacity | 47 litres |
What’s new on the inside?
Ans. Ssangyong added a large 9-in touch screen infotainment system in the 2020 Tivoli. It has support for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Then there is an all-new 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster that sits right behind the steering wheel. Just like the touch screen infotainment system, this, too, is a welcoming addition.
The rest of the interior of the new Tivoli is more or less the same. If you have been inside the previous Tivoli, you would not be that surprised after experiencing the interior of the new model.
Engine
The biggest change in the 2020 Ssangyong Tivoli specs sheet has to be in the engine department. The previous model of the Ssangyong Tivoli had only a gasoline/petrol engine. However, the new model has been given a 1.6-litre turbodiesel engine. This should appeal to a lot of customers. Drop a comment in the comments section about this new diesel engine.
Apparently, this is the same 1.6-litre engine which Ssangyong uses in its recently launched Korando, Tivoli’s elder sibling. The engine churns out 134 bhp of max power at 4000 rpm and 324 Nm of torque at 1500 - 4000 rpm. As for the transmission, there’s
a 6-speed automatic unit.
Apart from the new diesel engine, the 2020 Tivoli will continue to have its previous petrol engine too.
2020 Ssangyong Tivoli engine options-
Engine specs | 1.6-litre Gasoline | 1.6-litre Diesel |
Max power | 124 bhp at 6000 rpm | 134 bhp at 4000 rpm |
Max torque | 160 Nm at 2800 rpm | 324 Nm at 1500 - 4000 rpm |
Transmission | Manual / Automatic | Automatic |
These were some of the key differences between the old and new Tivoli. Ssangyong has tried to make a good impression in the subcompact SUV segment with its new 2020 Tivoli. Providing a diesel engine option in this segment should boost sales. Let’s see what happens.
As for the pricing, the 2020 Ssangyong Tivoli price starts at Php 785,000 for its base model and goes all the way up to Php 1.29 million. It is available in four colours - Cherry Red, Grand White, Silent Silver and Platinum Grey.
