Strada lineup gets a refreshed single cab variant in Thailand
MANILA: Ever since the population has started using the pickup trucks as their lifestyle vehicle than a mere utility automobile, the automakers have started to pack their pickup trucks with car-like comfort and convenience features. However, there is still a part of the population that uses these pickups trucks for the purpose they’ve been invented for, i.e., hauling cargo. For just those, Mitsubishi has launched a single cab variant of the Strada or shall we say Triton, as the pickup has been launched in Thailand.
The new single cab variant is an updated model that replaces the previous-gen base model. Just like the high-end variants of the newest iteration of the Strada/Triton, the single cab model also features a modern appearance. There is the dual headlamp setup, a three-tier grille setup, and a much enhanced & muscular structure. There is no chrome, though. Well, for a cargo hauler, chrome is not needed either. That has left the likes of side mirrors, bumper, and door handles black and blank. The wheels here also are steel units instead of the fancy alloys.
Thanks to the single cab setup, the bed is on this variant is much higher and can carry more load when compared to the other variants of the Triton. Measuring 2,265 mm long, 1,470 mm wide, and 475 mm tall, the new bed on the pickup truck can carry more than 1,200-kg.
Apart from the aesthetics and the bed, the stuff under the hood has also been updated. The powerhouse now is a 2.4-litre MIVEC turbodiesel motor that we first saw on the Mitsubishi Montero Sport. Thankfully, Mitsubishi did not de-tune the motor and as a result, the power figures read the same 181 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 430 Nm. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission and the pickup also features all-wheel-drive along with a rear locking differential.
While the Thai automobile market has already got the single cab Triton, we hope for Mitsubishi Philippines to bring the variant to the country sooner than later and complete the Philippine Strada lineup as well.
