Super Height K-Wagon concept unveiled at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show
MANILA: A lot of automobile manufacturers have shown their version of the Kei car concept this 2019 Tokyo Moto Show. For Mitsubishi, it’s the Super Height K-Wagon concept. The wagon has a boxy design with sliding doors that resembles a mini minivan that is spacious (for its size) and comes with a powerful-enough engine most suitable for city driving.
The Mitsubishi Super Height K-Wagon, unlike many other Kei cars, is ‘super’ tall compared to most Kei cars and thus benefits from slightly better-than-average ground clearance. The concept car, which is a near-production prototype for a new Kei wagon for the Japan market, is vaguely reminiscent of the late ’80s to early ‘90s Mitsubishi Delica.
The Mitsubishi Super Height K-Wagon sports the Dynamic Shield concept, which we can find in the new Montero Sport, Xpander, and 2019 Strada (or Triton). It also sports a long wheelbase accentuated with black wheel arches and a side sill garnish. The concept car sports a two-tone finish in olive green color with a white roof accent with silver roof rails. The side also features a sliding door, which gives it the van vibe.
Inside, the car looks like your regular Mitsubishi. There is ample space for passengers, which can sometimes be lacking for Kei cars. In fact, the Super Height K-Wagon’s back seat legroom and rear door opening are the largest in its class. The seats are made of brown synthetic leather with a quilting pattern design that matches the brown leather of the steering wheel. Typical of new generation cars, a fairly large touchscreen infotainment system is mounted at the center of the dash just above the AC vents and gear shift.
Under the hood, the car is powered by a conventional internal-combustion engine mated to a CVT transmission. The Super Height K-Wagon also holds an array of driver assistance technologies like the e-Assist preventive safety technology with braking system to help reduce collision damage, MI-PILOT to assist the driver on the highway, and collision prevention assistance for pedal misapplication.
