Suzuki XL7: First impressions
The all-new Suzuki XL7 is the latest addition to the Japanese automaker’s subcompact SUV lineup. Details surrounding its release have been minimal over the past few months. However, recently, Suzuki finally shared what we can expect from the XL7’s arrival in the country.
According to the automaker, they intended for the XL7 to be for Filipino families who enjoy dynamic and exciting driving experiences. The XL7 can be easily compared to the Suzuki Ertiga with its spacious cabin and seven-seater capacity. The only difference is the XL7 is designed to be more rugged, pitting it against the likes of the Toyota Rush and the Mitsubishi Xpander Cross.
The release date for the Philippines was slated for March 18. To celebrate its recent launch, we answered your questions about the all-new Suzuki XL7.
How does the new Suzuki XL7 look?
The XL7 features the Japanese automaker’s unique modernized classic Suzuki design language. While inspired by the Ertiga, the XL7 features a taller ride height and more ground clearance — 200 mm versus the former’s 180 mm. The front grille also sports a sweeping cross-bar with a chrome garnish, plus Quad Chamber LED reflector headlamps.
The vehicle sports black claddings and accents. To top off its SUV aesthetic, front and rear skid plates with side claddings, back door chrome garnishes, chrome-plated door handles, and glossy black alloy wheels were also included.
Inside the vehicle sports this black and gray theme. The cabin is mostly decked out in black with gray and silver accents found on the headliner and pillars. Silver accents were also added on the dashboard and the inside of the front doors.
What convenience features are in the new Suzuki XL7?
A number of convenience features were included to guarantee a comfortable ride for the whole family. For the front row of the vehicle, a utility box has been added along with sliding armrests. The second row comes with a one-touch recline and slide function, plus sliding armrests as well.
The third row, on the other hand, has a 50:50 design and offers a split and recline function. It also has a split type luggage board for easy converting. All headrests are adjustable. The overhead console also features a map lamp and sunglass holder.
It also shares some convenience features with the Ertiga such as a 10” multimedia touchscreen, 6 speakers, and push-button ignition system.
What are the engine specs for the new Suzuki XL7?
Similar to the Ertiga, the all-new XL7 is powered by a 1.5-liter four-cylinder K15B engine. It can generate 103 hp of power at 6,000 rpm and138 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm. This can be mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission. According to most performance reviews, it fairs similarly to its sibling, the Ertiga.
What safety features are in the new Suzuki XL7?
The XL7 specs sheet comes with the standard set of airbags for the driver and passengers. It is also equipped with child safety locks, anti-lock braking system, and electronic brakeforce distribution. Special features include a vehicle stability control system, day and night rearview mirror, a rear camera, crash sensor, and front and side-impact beams.
How much is the new Suzuki XL7?
The all-new Suzuki XL7 comes in only variant: the XL7 GLX A/T. It is currently being offered at Php 1,068,000. For those who booked the new car for P5,000 before March 18, will be able to receive a P30,000 discount on the vehicle.
The XL7 is obviously the high-end model in Suzuki’s latest lineup, with its current partner the S-Presso priced at a significantly lower P518,000.
So, what’s the verdict?
Following the success of the Suzuki Vitara, Ertiga, and Jimny, the Japanese automaker is shifting their attention to the SUV segment this 2020 — and so far it looks promising. The entry of the all-new XL7 is sure to stir things up in the popular SUV market.
