Takata Manic- Honda Calls Back 4.5 Million Cars
MANILA: Automobile makers around the world are facing the worst recall crises ever. Big-shoots like General Motors, BMW, Toyota, Honda to name a few out of the list with a total of ten car makers, are re-calling their cars from around the world. These re-calls by the automobile makers concerns to the safety issues of their customers. One such major call-back is announced by Honda on Thursday, where it re-called 4.5 million cars, manufactured in the year 2007 to 2011.
With this latest call-back, Honda has reached at a grand total of 24.5 million vehicles that it has re-called in the last 7 years. This whole fuss is created by none another than, TAKATA - manufacturer of automobile airbags. Apparently, the root cause of this problem is said to be the propellant pellets which is present inside the inflator. When damaged these propellant pellets burns abnormally and emit gas, which leads the inflator to explode, resulting in scattering shrapnel in the car, hurting the driver and the co-passenger. These ill designed Propellant pellets manufactured by TAKATA, have taken life of at least eight people and injured 100 people worldwide.
Out of the 4.5 million cars re-called by Honda, 1.63 million were from Japan, including Fit and CR-V crossover. Although, no cars were re-called from US and Canada. This recall have left Honda with a big hole in its pocket, with a 14 percent decline in its year to year annual profit. In addition to this, Takata has also paid a big price for its manic, a net loss of $243m was reported for the fiscal year that ended in March.
Honda's president Takahiro Hachigo, 56, pledged to improve communication within Honda, downplayed sales targets and said the company had no plans to support Takata.
