Even for the sweeper marshals who had previously been able to scan the area several times, the trail became challenging because of the recent devastation caused by Typhoon Karding and the heavy rains that fell over the event weekend. A rigorous two-kilometer stretch that the rigs had to travel through in four hours was one of the main challenges the participants had to conquer. One participant stated that while going through it was exceedingly difficult and taxing, it was ultimately rewarding. It was a true test of endurance and teamwork for each team.
The campers started their adventure on October 21 with a warm welcome from General Nakar Mayor Esee Rozul. Jeep Club off-roaders Atkimson Kua and Rhod Ang led the four-hour course over a variety of landscapes and river crossings. The trail-masters made sure everyone got safely to the campsite, a vast area of greenery where the campers spent three days socializing and unwinding with like-minded people.
Despite the formidable obstacles that the participants had to endure, competition director JR Bartolome saw to it that every point and every second was accurately documented from beginning to end. Team Ironman Philippines, composed of Jay Bryant Villaroman, Bomvet SJ Santos, Michael Mendoza, Car Michael Santos, Jherico Lara, and Jayvie Dumlao, triumphed among the 25 participating teams. They won the grand prize of P500,000 after completing the challenge in 2 hours, 17 minutes, and 29 seconds. Team La Union 1 came in second, followed by Team Giba 1 in third. Ensuring that no one went home empty-handed, Petron, Motolite, CST Tires, and Mototesto generously provided all PHOX participants with a number of exclusive freebies.
“It is an honor to be able to bring the overlanding community together in this one epic event,” Mototesto Overland Equipment Chief Executive Officer Tim Tuazon stated. “All the long hours, sacrifices, and hard work paid off when we saw the smiles and laughter of the competitors and campers. Truly, this event perfectly resonates the essence of competition, camaraderie, and passion for overlanding and this lifestyle; that was our goal from the very beginning.”
