The all-new Mitsubishi Delica/L300 is a blast from the past
MANILA: The Mitsubishi L300, which also called the Delica in other markets, is one of the most sought after and top-selling van in the South-East Asian countries like the Philippines, Indonesia, and Taiwan. So much so that the Japanese automaker has recently unveiled a refreshed model of the van in Taiwan. Based on the L300 Exceed that ruled the 90s, and underpinned by a pretty old platform, the updated L300/Delica tries its best to be a great van. So, how does the all-new Mitsubishi L300/Delica fare in 2019? Let's have a look.
While the side profile of the updated Mitsubishi L300/Delica along with the quarter panels, doors, and tailgate are still the same as before like the previous model, the van boasts a Dynamic Shield nose flanked by a two-tier headlamp setup. At the rear, the van gets a large Mitsubishi grille and a Delica chrome emblem on a black strip that joins the two taillamps.
Hop inside the revamped Mitsubishi L300/Delica and you are greeted by an interior that is a blend of retro and modern elements. While there is a standard 1DIN infotainment system, the steering wheel still comes with mounted audio controls as well as cruise controls. Furthermore, the instrument cluster also flaunts a modern digital display.
Speaking of the mechanical, the Mitsubishi L300/Delica is powered by the 4G69 engine that produces 133 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 200 Nm. Customer over there in Taiwan can go for either a six-speed manual gearbox or a five-speed automatic transmission.
On the safety front, the van is equipped with various modern-day safety features like multiple SRS airbags, anti-lock braking system, stability control, traction control, roll stability control, blind-spot warning, hill start assist, rear cross-traffic alert, ISOFIX child seat mounts, and tyre pressure monitoring.
Likes this Mitsubishi L300/Delica? Don't get your hopes high, though. Mitsubishi Motor Philippines Corporation (MMPC) is in no mood of bringing the updated van to the Philippines, and we have to do with the 1979 model that we have on offer here.
