This is the Mitsubishi Shogun Sport SVP, aka modified Montero Sport
MANILA: Mitsubishi has been coming up with some serious and uniquely modified vehicles of its own. Why leave it to someone else when you can do it yourself, right? It hasn’t been too long since the Japanese automaker unwrapped the Strada aka L200/Triton Absolute and here’s it again, this time with a customised Montero Sport. The intention behind modifying both the vehicles, however, has been the same, i.e., to improve their off-road capabilities.
Dedicated to taking you through the off-road trails, the special edition SUV has been given the title Shogun Sport SVP, where SVP stands for Special Vehicle Projects. Mitsubishi hasn’t been the solitary contributor to the project as the automaker has sought the help of Walkinshaw Performance.
The modifications on the customised Shogun Sport include Koni shocks, 18-inch blacked-out alloy clothed with BF Goodrich all-terrain tyres, and revamped tracks which are now 40 mm wider.
Other than the aforementioned mods, all the other mechanical equipment remain the same. The Shogun Sport continues to house the 2.4-litre MIVEC turbo diesel motor that produces 184 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 430 Nm. There is also the Super Select 4WD system along with the centre and rear locking differentials which, as a whole, work in conjunction with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Considering the fact that this Shogun Sport SVP is intended for off-road wandering, the SUV also gets a decal package, PIAA LED driving lamps, roof-mounted LED lightbar, revised grille, and blacked-out headlight and taillamp surrounds. Similar to the Strada Absolute,
Mitsubishi is currently observing customer response before going on to build a production model. The automaker has also revealed that it will be launching an off-road package for the Montero Sport later this year. Hopefully, the Philippines will also get its fair share once the package rolls out in the market.
