This Lamborghini Huracan’s job is guiding planes in an Italian airport
MANILA: If you ever find yourself in Italy, don’t be surprised to find a sleek Lamborghini puttering about the airport runways. This Lamborghini Huracan works an important job at Italy’s Guglielmo Marconi Airport in Bologna.
What is now dubbed as the “Follow Me” Huracan, is responsible for guiding aircraft around the runway. It has two main responsibilities: to guide incoming aircraft towards the parking stand and to guide planes on takeoff when they taxi out to the runway.
Compared to the typical Huracan which comes in various color combinations of yellow, orange, silver, and black, the “Follow Me” Huracan is designed to catch the attention of pilots. Designed by Lamborghini Centro Sile,
the “Follow Me” Huracan sports an orange exterior with full-body graphics. This color was specially selected to match the same colours as the other vehicles that operate in the airport. It also wears the Italian flag on both doors, the roof, and the front/rear intakes.
The “Follow Me” Huracan is also outfitted with an orange light bar that is placed on the roof. The vehicle is also equipped with a radio directly connected to the airport’s control tower, allowing air traffic control to relay instructions and information to the driver.
Despite being confined to the Guglielmo Marconi Airport, the “Follow Me” Huracan still has the familiar 5.2 liter naturally aspirated V10 engine. In fact, there were no modifications given in terms of engineering. It still possesses a rear-wheel drive and can produce 580 PS with 533 Nm of torque. Thanks to its seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, the Huracan can go from 0-100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds. It can reach a top speed of approximately 320 km/h.
The responsibility of driving an Italian supercar around an airfield all day is a daunting task. Which is why this responsibility is specially delegated to a well-trained aircraft ground control marshal.
This is Lamborghini’s sixth time collaborating with the Guglielmo Marconi Airport. According to the press release, the presence of the Huracan represents decades of continuous cooperation between Lamborghini and the Guglielmo Marconi Airport in Bologna.
