VW Tiguan GTE Active Concept Arrived at 2016 NAIAS
MANILA: Eyeing on the off-road vehicle line-up, Volkswagen, one of the most famed brands, has made its entry in the 2016 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) by showcasing the Tiguan GTE Active Concept. It was first appeared at 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. And, it will come for production in the global market by the end of the current year and will surely make its position among the hybrid cars.
Apart from this, the company is also planning to add more vehicles in its family, whereas, some of VW's concept vehicles and technology have already been introduced at the CES 2016. The Volkswagen Philippines has a number of models in its portfolio that comprise of Beetle, Golf GTI, Polo Hatchback, Tiguan, Jetta, Polo Notch, Touran, Touareg Sport Edition and the recently launched VW Passat.
It is the first vehicle from the stable that uses new Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB). The off-road vehicle houses a gasoline motor that is coupled with two electric motors. The gasoline-electric motor makes it able to generate a total power of 221 BHP. It gets six-speed transmission. The spoke person of the company said that the vehicle is capable of giving 20 miles in electric mode and 580 miles in the gasoline mode. Once introduced, this car may compete with the likes of Honda CR-V and Hyundai Tucson.
Furthermore, inspired by the second-generation Tiguan, the SUV features roof mounted fog lights, and compact LED headlights, while the front bumper houses a wide honey-comb air dam that is surrounded by C-Shaped LED DRLs at both ends. Off-road tyres and longer wheel-base have been added to enhance the off-road experience.
The five seater concept car is showing excellent interior as it gets fully digital instrument cluster, touch screen interface, while gesture control system has been provided to monitor the functionality of the car. The standard safety features have been installed to make driving safe and enjoyable. The safety components include an Autonomous Emergency Braking, Anti-lock braking system, pedestrian monitoring, etc.
