Toyota celebrates 20th year of Prius with 2,020 special-edition units
MANILA: Can you believe it’s been 20 years since Leonardo DiCaprio rolled down to the Oscars in a Prius and simultaneously broached the idea that you can be environmentally friendly, save fuel, while still using your car?
That’s right, the Prius is turning 20 and Toyota is celebrating this highlight by making a limited-edition, special model to commemorate the occasion.
Called the Prius 2020 Edition, only 2,020 units will be made and it will be classified as model year 2021.
The red-black combo immediately makes it look sleeker and sportier than your typical Prius although it’s still based on the XLE FWD model offered in the USA. It comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, blackout headlight components and trim, B-pillars, and mirror housings. Exclusive to the Prius 2020 Edition are a “2020” insignia key glove/fob and floor mats, as well as black shift knob and interior A-pillar trim and smoked HVAC vents.
Toyota upgrades its Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) system to the 2.0 which means it will now have Pre-Collision System with Low-Light Pedestrian Detection, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Bicyclist Detection, Lane Departure Alert, Automatic High Beams, and Road Sign Assist on top of what’s included in the standard TSS-P package.
It will be available in two colors. Model in the photo show the Supersonic Red. It also comes in Wind Chill Pearl.
The Prius 2020 Edition will be in dealerships in the USA around Q3 of 2020.
In related news, Toyota is set to introduce two all-new hybrid models at the Toyota 2020 New Product Showcase on May 18, 11 a.m. EDT (Eastern Daylight Time) or 11 p.m. Philippine time. To watch the event, click here.
