Toyota debuts all-new Yaris Cross online
MANILA: After launching the fourth-generation Yaris exclusively in Japan (for the meantime) last February, Toyota Motor Corporation went big with its subcompact crossover sibling and launched it to the world today.
The all-new Yaris Cross, which was supposed to debut in Geneva, was unveiled online today and is expected to be in dealerships in Japan late this year and in Europe by mid 2021.
For Toyota, this vehicle redefines “what an urban-type compact SUV should be” as it shares the same TNGA-B (Toyota New Global Platform B) platform as the all-new Yaris.
It will have two engine options, 1.5 three-cylinder Dynamic Force Engine and a hybrid version with the same engine but is complemented by Toyota’s Hybrid System II.
The gasoline-powered trim will ride on a front-wheel-drive layout while the hybrid version will be using either a front-wheel-drive or the E-Four (electric four-wheel-drive) system.
As a subcompact crossover, the body will be a more robust version of the Yaris while the cabin will have an SUV-like interior and similar level of comfort and luggage room.
The Yaris Cross will be manufactured at Toyota Motor East Japan Co., Ltd. for the Japan market, and at Toyota Motor Manufacturing France for the European market.
