MANILA: Toyota Motor Corporation’s Gazoo Racing (TGR) performance and motorsports arm has showcased a trio of souped-up GR Yaris units at this year’s Tokyo Auto Salon (TAS).
KEY TAKEAWAYS
What are the three GR Yaris versions presented at the 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon?
The three GR Yaris versions presented at the 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon are the GR Yaris (NÜR 24h) race car, the GR Yaris Aero Package, and the GR Yaris M Concept. What is the price of the Toyota GR Yaris in the Philippines?
In the Philippines, the Toyota GR Yaris is priced at P2.94 million. The aforementioned range from concept cars designed to demonstrate prototype parts to outright race cars, which are currently being prepared to enter competitions.
Toyota GR Yaris (NÜR 24h)
Per its name, the GR Yaris (NÜR 24h) will headline the Toyota performance division's return to the Nurburgring 24 Hours Endurance race after a six-year hiatus.
As such, the vehicle was provided with several enhancements, including the newly developed eight-speed GR Direct Automatic Transmission, which was previously debuted along with the updated GR Yaris in 2024.
Toyota's performance arm shared no other details about the car, but the pictures of the vehicle showed a roll cage, a set of Bridgestone Potenza tires, and a huge rear wing.
Apart from the Nurburgring 24 Hours Endurance race, the said vehicle is likewise designed to enter the Super Taikyu Series.
Toyota GR Yaris Aero Package
TGR also showed off the GR Yaris Aero Package as a concept car at the 2025 TAS.
The brand did not share launch dates for the aero package since it is still in the prototype stage, but it is touted to improve aerodynamic performance and exterior styling. Additionally, it was designed with the feedback of professional racing drivers.
The prototype package consists of six parts, but the key piece is a variable rear wing equipped with a situation-responsive adjust angle. Based on the pictures provided, however, the set also includes a hood scoop and more vents for the hot hatchback’s rear lower bumper.
Like the GR Yaris (NÜR 24h), the updated Toyota GR Yaris, introduced in 2024, was used to showcase the prototype aero package parts at 2025 TAS.
GR Yaris M Concept
The third and probably the most bonkers version of the GR Yaris shown off at 2025 TAS is the M Concept.
In summary, the said vehicle was conceived to "further explore the potential of the GR Yaris." So, to achieve the aforementioned, TGR gave the car a midship-mounted layout, similar to the now legendary Toyota MR2.
Additionally, the M Concept ditched the regular 1.6-liter inline-3 turbo from the standard GR Yaris. Instead, it sports a beefier 2.0-liter turbocharged mill. No power figures were disclosed, but its more significant displacement hints at a stronger engine output.
Interestingly, the M Concept will also help demonstrate TGR's "driver-first" philosophy of carmaking. In other words, professional drivers repeatedly expose vehicles to extreme racing conditions. After which, changes or improvements will be made based on feedback.
