KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Where is the En Tsumugi ELV dismantler facility located?

The En Tsumugi ELV dismantler facility is located in Mexico, Pampanga.
  • Why is having a proper ELV dismantling facility a huge milestone for Toyota Motor Philippines?

Having a proper ELV dismantling facility is a huge milestone for Toyota Motor Philippines because it allows for the proper disposal and recycling of automotive waste.
  • The said facility is located in Mexico, Pampanga and it is owned and operated by the Hung family under the En Tsumugi ELV Dismantler Corporation.

According to Toyota, having a proper ELV dismantling plant in the local setting is a huge milestone for the Philippine automotive industry. It serves as a benchmark for recycling automotive waste materials while promoting environmental sustainability.

To note, En Tsumugi was formed as a pilot project by ELV dismantler Tsuruoka Corporation Limited. It was also financially supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency. Toyota Motor Corporation and Mitsui & Co. Limited, meanwhile, provided technical assistance and guidance on business development.

The carmaker further assisted En Tsumugi by providing the company with five ELV units, including one hybrid electric vehicle. The said units are said to have been provided to the ELV dismantling corporation for training.

Additionally, TMP helped the Pampanga-based entity with regard to its environmental compliance requirements, facility design, equipment requirements, hazardous waste management, and dismantling methodology.

As TMP President Masando Hashimoto shared, the establishment of En Tsumugi is aligned with the objectives of the “Toyota Global 100 Dismantlers Project.”

The project aims to establish a network of ELV dismantling facilities around the world in order to address the pollution and resource depletion posed by ELV units.

Currently, the new EN Tsumugi dismantler facility in Pampanga is the fourth of its kind in the Southeast Asian region to have been provided by Toyota with its “Certificate of Gratitude.” Other similar facilities in the region recognized by the car manufacturer are located in Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia.
