Toyota GR Supra Heritage Edition features new body kit and heritage-appropriate rear wing
MANILA: In celebration of the 40th anniversary of Toyota Racing Development (TRD), Toyota is bringing a handful of modified GR Supra to the SEMA.
Toyota will highlight the TRD tradition by bringing in nine modified 2020 GR Supra cars to its booth at the SEMA show in Las Vegas. The featured cars will range from stock to heavily upgraded. And to be honest, our favorite is the eye-catching Toyota GR Supra Heritage Edition.
The Toyota GR Supra Heritage Edition is a fifth-generation Supra built by Motorsports Tech Center and took inspiration from the well-loved fourth-generation Supra of the ‘90s.
According to Marty Schwerter of Motorsports Tech Center, the GR Supra Heritage achieved the ‘90s look by redesigning the headlights and taillights to match the Mk 4 car. The signature large rear spoiler is added to complete the look. "That's actually a spoiler from a Mk 4 Supra from the 1990s," he says.
"We just modified it to fit this car. It's been narrowed a bit, but the height is about the same as it was." The front splitter was created in partnership with LG Motorsports while the bulky rear diffuser which seamlessly integrates the twin exhaust pipes in a center-exit style was a collaborative effort with Cripworks.
Under the fenders are 19-inch wheels, HRE P107SC, feature a twin five-spoke design that shows off the massive 15-inch cross-drilled rotors and monoblock Brembo calipers (six pistons in front, four in back). Wrapped around the wheels are staggered Toyo Proxes R888R tires with 305/30/19s in back and 295/30/19s in front.
To fit the 11-inch-wide rear wheels and 305-mm rear tires, Schwerter and his team went with a cantilever coil-over rear suspension mounted in the trunk to eliminate two inches of unnecessary suspension travel. “This car has eight inches more tire contact patch than a stock Supra," said Schwerter. "And we plan on flogging the crap out of it."
TEIN adjustable coilovers with inboard design adds to the Heritage Edition’s badass look. And although all of the GR Supra’s vents have been modified to function and not just for aesthetic, the car has not been tested on a wind tunnel. The car is painted in a special blend of metallic red paint called Re-entry Red to make it truly standout as a racer.
The GR Supra Heritage Edition is tuned to 503 horsepower using stock internals to match the cosmetic improvements. Precision Turbo and Engine and Toyota worked together to tweak the 3.0-Liter straight six’s turbocharger to be able to increase more air into the engine by 18 percent. There is also a custom intake, a three-inch exhaust, and a Mission Performance ECU included for a powerful performance.
