Toyota has a new, environmentally friendly stamping machine
MANILA: Toyota has developed and launched a new stamping machine that cuts the Japanese automaker’s environmental impact while also making the plating process more efficient.
Using the world’s first stamping-type plating technology, allows metal ions to pass through a polymer membrane allowing plating in areas that need it.
This new process eliminates the need to dip the plates repeatedly in plating solution, which cuts waste by one-thirtieth and CO2 emissions by one-third. It also speeds up the plating time and reduces the carbon footprint of plating.
The machine is set to be used not just in the production of Toyota automobiles but in a range of industries and will also be shared with business partners.
With a more effective stamping machine, Toyota is able to meet the requirements of their Plant Zero CO2 Emissions Challenge as part of the Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050.
Toyota has even collaborated with Mikado Technos Co., Ltd. and Kanematsu Corporation to manufacture and sell, and expand the use of this plating machine based on this new technology.
Over the next two to three years, Toyota aims to sell the stamping-type plating machine for use by a number of companies as a test machine for verification and evaluation purposes.
From 2023 or 2024, Toyota will expand sales more broadly, targeting general users to make it a full production machine.
