Powertrain, chassis
The next-generation Toyota Tamaraw — which is called Hilux Champ in other markets like Thailand — is built on the Japanese carmaker’s new International Multi-purpose Vehicle 0 (IMV 0) platform for the Asian market.
Would-be owners can choose from two different powertrain options, which are a 2.4-liter diesel mill or a 2.0-liter gasoline engine. The former is paired with either a five-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed slush box. Meanwhile, the latter is available only with a five-speed manual transmission.
Fleet owners and operators or adventure-seeking car buyers can expect the diesel-fed powerplant to dish out some 147 horsepower with 343 to 400 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque. On the other hand, the gasoline engine can put out some 137 horses with 183 Nm of pulling power.
Handling deceleration and halts are disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. Supporting the IMV 0 platform are independent front suspension coils and rigid leaf springs at the rear.
