Toyota Motor Philippines bags Triple Crown for the 17th time
MANILA: Thriving in cutthroat competition is something one can learn from Toyota. Moreover, topping the charts in a year of decline is no mean feat. In 2018, where the automobile market in the Philippines fell down by 15.22 %, Toyota Motor Philippines still topped in PC (passenger car),
CV (commercial vehicles), and overall sales. As a matter of fact, the Japanese automaker excelled in 9 different categories. It is for the 17th time in a row when Toyota has been crowned with the Triple Crown in the Philippines automobile market.
Even after facing the decline, a total of 401,803 vehicles were sold throughout 2018 in the country compared to 473,943 units in 2017. Of the total sales, Toyota managed to account 153,000 unit sales, which is 38.2 % of the total number. While Toyota Motor Philippines topped the charts,
its personal sales charts also went down by 17 %. That being said, 46,117 units were manufactured at the carmaker’s Santa Rosa plant in the country. Satoru Suzuki, the president of Toyota Motor Philippines was very jubilant about the automaker’s performance in 2018 and hinted towards bigger and better things in 2019.
“Despite the unfavorable climate of 2018, recording a 17% decline in sales versus 2017, Toyota was able to hold its ground. It was truly a challenging year, and we are hopeful that this year will be more auspicious,” Suzuki cited.
Toyota Vios was the top-selling model for the Japanese manufacturer in the country with 25,740 trades. The Fortuner slipped from the first position in 2017 to the second in 2018 accounting 23,082 sales. Toyota Wigo, Hilux, and Innova took the 3rd, 4th, and 5th spot with 21,234, 18,287, and 18,175 sales respectively throughout the year.
