Toyota PH makes digital motorsport history with virtual GR Supra GT Cup Asia-PH
MANILA: Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) staging of the GR Supra GT Cup Asia-Philippines is on.
This is an e-motorsport event under the international Gazoo racing brand of Toyota. TMP stages the Philippine leg, in collaboration with Tuason Racing. This event widens the extent of the local motorsport development program of TMP, which includes the Vios Racing Festival. This is the premier one-make race of the auto brand, which will be resuming in 2021 once the government already allows public events and mass gatherings.
This event is ideal for drivers who enjoy speeding down well-known racing circuits and for those who dream of representing the country in a global e-motorsport event using the GR Supra, the pure sports car of the auto brand.
Two major categories have been opened for the competition, namely, the Sporting Class for expert racers with professional online motorsports experience, and the Promotional Class for new, casual car enthusiasts or virtual racers.
Two additional categories are also open, the Media and Celebrity Class where the third Philippine race champion will be taken from, as well as the Junior Class for participants under 18 years old.
Those who are eligible to join the competition are Filipino citizens who are aged 18 and above and have a valid Philippine passport. Participants can register for free at the official website of Toyota here.
Players should also have access to a Playstation 4 through the use of their active PS Plus subscription and their PSN account, and the Gran Turismo Sport game.
Once the registration has been accomplished, and the requirements have been submitted, eligible applicants will be informed in terms of the official game schedules and rules.
Racers will participate in the qualifying leaderboard challenge to determine the Top 24 from every class. These top 24 racers will move towards the semi-final round and the final race. Scoring will be based on the time that each participant has finished the race.
The elimination round of qualifiers will be on July 23, with the final race will be done a week after. A second and third round will be conducted in August and September 2020, respectively.
At this time, point values will go up at every round, and players should qualify as well. The participants from the two classes to gain the most number of points after the third round will be named as the Philippine champions. They will join the Asian Regional Round, which will be held in October this year.
